I recently had the joy of staying at this gorgeous, historic inn. The view was delightful and although it rained for most of my time there, I enjoyed my stay immensely. I would happily stay again.

A bit isolated, but a beautiful situation facing the full Atlantic. Old hotel, comfortable, with good ciusine on offer. Enjoyed our stay.

Sat in a stunning location the Bar offered us Cold Beers and White Wine right at the end of South Uist. It was only a short walk from where we stayed and provides a vital watering hole for walkers, cyclists and everyone else in the area. We didn’t eat but were told that you needed to book days in advance. I don’t like speaking negatively about staff (we can all have a bad day) but service was poor both times we went in and bar/eating area were cold and lifeless. To me, it felt like a place that was struggling. One member of bar staff was openly criticising a colleague to anyone who’d listen - then vanished themselves and couldn’t be found for 10mins when we wanted our next drinks. Everyone in there (not that many in) seemed to have something to moan about. Maybe businesses on islands can’t be fussy who they employ, I don’t know. Still worth a visit and we’d go back, we’d just lower our expectations.

You want clichés? You got 'em! Curate's Egg. Game of two halves. Maybes aye, maybes naw! For; Food was very good, selection of wines and beers was good, setting is mindblowing - wander out front door and boom! there's the sun setting over the Atlantic!!!! Against; Soundproofing! Worst I've ever experienced in a hotel - and I'm 64!!!! Man in room next door had a shower and I could have sworn he was in our shower; Room size, very small, literally kepy bumping into each other; death trap window locks that need a degree in physics and nerves of steel, staff were Ok but lacked real warmth and interest. The building is fine and the area is outstanding - any hotel here should, ahem, be setting the heather on fire!

A great location, run by friendly staff with a delicious food menu! The hotel is right on the beach by an ancient standing stone, and is a fantastic location to watch the sun set. I did feel the hotel was overpriced for the quality of room which was basic, though I appreciate there is little competition in the area so should not complain! Would stay again.

Overpriced underwhelming bar food. Indicative of a chain hotel with little management oversight - bar staff more interested in their phones than customers. Positive - nice situation and sea views.

We went for supper and waited an hour for the first course of soup after being told it might be a "wee wait" because it was busy. It wasn't that busy as not every table was taken. We only got the soup when we complained. It then took another half hour to get the next course. The food was mediocre as well and the prices were more than mediocre. We would not go back.
