Me and my wife stayed at the barge inn overnight for a getaway from work and it was perfect and relaxing . Check in was seamless and welcoming, we we taken to our room which had a view of the canal. Clean bed linen and lovely clean bath sheets with a large walk in shower with good quality complementary toiletries and a nice selection on teas and coffee. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced and lovely and quite just sitting by the open fire with a glass of wine. We did not eat there as we had other eateries already booked but the Sunday lunch and breakfast looked stunning. A friendly and professional checkout with a final positive farewell from the team member makes us depart feeling happy, all this linked with complementary car parking it was a perfect overnight stay and we would definitely return Thank you #teambargeinn

Disgusting. Avoid at all costs. We recently moved into the area over the summer and wanted to explore some local pubs. On a sunny day in August, after visiting another pub in nearby Avoncliff, we thought we’d give The Barge Inn a try. We parked in their car park, bought two pints (bank statement to prove it), and even told the bar staff that we were new to the area and had driven over from Avoncliff. We stayed just 28 minutes and not once were we told we had to register the car. A week later I received a £100 penalty notice from Smart Parking saying I’d breached their parking conditions, despite seeing no clear signs or parking meter. Even after showing proof we were paying customers, the “appeal” only reduced it to £20. What an absolutely disgusting way to treat people. What kind of “hospitality” is that? It’s nothing more than a customer cash grab dressed up as parking enforcement. Wish I'd seen the multiple reviews of this happening to other customers. If this is how they treat people who try to support them, then they don’t deserve the support. There are plenty of genuine pubs nearby that won’t sting you for a pint. Steer clear of The Barge Inn.

We ordered the burgers, pea and asparagus risotto and a kids ham and egg. The food was both a work of art and extremely tasty. Children's portions were generous, the chips were "proper chips" and the ambience was lovely. Perfect pit stop after a long day at a local safari park. Would highly recommend

We thought we would have a beer, in what we thought was a lovely by the side of the canal setting, what a disappointment it was, the pub seemed pleasant enough, but the garden by the canal side was filthy, litter everywhere, fresh dogs mess, every table covered in past diners experiences, glasses, plates, sauce sachets, it wasn't just fresh litter, some of it looked days if not weeks old, the grass was overgrown, nettles strewn with napkins, wasps and seagulls having the time of their lives, rich pickings for them, What a shame😒 no toilet paper in the women's toilet either

Overall the pub is generally tired with worn carpets and not the cleanest, bed was the worst mattress I have ever slept on! Plus points breakfast was really good and the staff all very friendly, however were not able to give a VAT receipt for the room or breakfast! Staff smoking and talking in the court yard was also not ideal as it was a hot night so windows needed to be open.

This pub has a parking system that apparently is designed as some sort of fraud. Upon checking in, one must register their vehicle on a self service computer, which despite several attempts was not working. We then have vehicle details to staff who assured us they would enter it. We were staying at the hotel! A few weeks later I received a charge on my credit card for £90, yes £90! This was more than we paid for the room. I appealed this charge on the clear basis that we were staying at the hotel and there is very clear evidence of this but after 2 weeks I get a clearly bog standard response saying appeal refused, I obviously didn’t see the signs. It is clear that they didn’t even bother to read my appeal and that this is a rip off. Avoid this place, now I see why we were the only ones there.

the room was very very small (i had to put my small suitcase on the bed to open it up and then in front of the door at night as no space around the bed. the room had a strong smell of moth balls. the window was painted open so couldnt be closed to shut out the noise from a generator outside in the night and then rubbish pick up in the morning.

Do they actually HAVE a qualified chef working there??? Or, maybe it was their day off? I had the unfortunate experience of eating at the Barge ( I say eating very lightly) last evening.... We were staying locally, were very tired and it was the closest place....BIG mistake!...BIG mistake! THEEE most disgusting burger I have ever had the misfortune of eating..( I say that lightly too as I had one mouthful and gave up .. Honestly I did) Staff bordering rude... restaurant nearly empty but given the table by the kitchen door... I can go on, but I simply cannot be bothered....just go somewhere else.

Absolutely fantastic place . We stayed Valentines weekend and it was just perfect . The room is modern and very clean . Well equipped . We had a meal in the restaurant that was delicious. We can’t wait to visit again in the summer . The staff are lovely . The surrounding area is beautiful.
