Such a beautiful house, great history and huge dissapointment. The rooms are not planned well for lighting. The ceiling fan was VERY noisey, 1 light bulb in a 3 socket fixture kept strobbing, it took me making contact with manager 3 times to trade out the bulb, well it kept strobbing as well. Must have been a elec short. The dark shower had no light. No room air, the hall way control was for the entire 3rd floor. No instructions as to early departure for locking the door and leaving the key. All in all, I can't recommend the place, after a 12 hour drive, I needed more than offered. BTW, 8:30 breakfast, I was up and left before 6.

A disappointing experience. We thought we would try something different on our drive west, so booked the impressive-looking Bissing House. While the Inn is in a convenient, walkable location to downtown restaurants, you do not get any of the “perks” generally expected in this type of accommodation. Check-in is totally self-service, and we spent 20 minutes trying to get the front door key to unlock the front door when we arrived, as scheduled, about 5 PM. No one around to help. We were able to help the couple who arrived about an hour later when they had the same issue. Rooms were pretty much as pictured, though could use some attention. Showers were hot. The final room occupants arrived at 3 AM and apparently had trouble getting into their room; hallway noise from them killed our night. While the breakfast was fine, the earliest available is 8:30, not conducive to the moving traveler. The only interaction we had with staff was to say thank you for the food, and can you make another pot of coffee please. When we texted our concern about the damaged front lock, a staff member called me and said it would be repaired by morning, which is fine, but didnt help us much…Next time, back to a standard roadside hotel.

The place to be to catch the spirit of Hays.
A surprisingly cool town with a rich history. Management absolutely top-notch, friendly, and proud of their city. Clean, charming accommodations near the old town center.

The Bissing has character to spare, and is perfectly located to find dining downtown. The rooms and breakfast were top notch. We were crossing the country on a road trip and the Bissing and Hays are absolutely worth planning a stopover around.

So much charm and comfort
This was a stopover on a longer trip and we wanted to get back on the road so missed eating a nice breakfast. Unfortunately breakfast is served at 8:30 or 10:00 - very vice for a leisurely weekend away.

Our second time here and it was as good as ever! The staff are very friendly and attentive (even after their family tragedy) and we appreciate that so much!
We walked to a nearby sushi restaurant for dinner and it was also surprisingly good.

A Trip Back in Time
The property takes you back in time to the turn of the 19th century. Stairs and floors creak with character, the stairs and banister are a reminder of grandparent's home as I grew up. The breakfast was personally made and it was perfect.

Breakfast was excellent. Quiet. Private.
