We spent two nights at this hotel, at first appearance a little colonial in style. The two stars (positives) are for a comfortable bed, a reasonable breakfast and good service in the dining room (especially the older gentleman) and two young men on reception were helpful too. BUT… A very rude “manager” - she must have told us 10 times that check out was 10.30a.m. No please or thank you or have you had a good stay - she even demanded “my keys” to be handed in when we left to explore. Also - cleaning is very poor, the bathroom was pretty disgusting in numerous ways. As for the green pool - no thank you! This hotel has great potential - a manager (if that is what she was) with some customer care training, better cleaning and a pool make over (or close it until it gets sorted) would make this a very popular destination

The hotel is under new ownership since we came last year. There is work being done around the hotel, such as improving the rooms, and a gym is being built. Unfortunately despite this disruption, the new owners have already increased the price by 20%. US$66 or £53 is a lot to pay for a hotel where there is no hot (or warm even) water, and things don't always work. I stayed in a ground floor room and had to keep the curtains closed as just outside the room was a building site. We asked the ownrr for a reduction as the standard was below what you'd expect for the price, but were refused. Have to say that the staff are all fantastic - they were lovely. And the setting is lovely, but you can't access the beach from the hotel Keep the old price until the work is finished, then put it up. At least then, people know what they're getting! We have been coming to Tanga once a year for many years, and have been staying at the Mkonge every time, but we won't be returning.

It was really a nice place stay there. I would say the best place in Tanzania. I had a lot of enjoy there and fun too made some new Indian friends. Picture attached. The food quality is okay for Non- Veg lovers. The rooms are too old but neat and clean. The staff are good, polite and Helpful. Special thanks Mr. Sulemani(Manager F&B). Manka and Rabeka( Front desk).
