Chateau Tout Y Fault is a 19th century chateau near Vichy that has had a 21st century renovation inside. It makes for a relaxing break set in woodland beside some stables in a property which exudes heritage and rustic charm. Each spacious room has its own decorative style - the chateau is the antithesis of a cookie-cutter chain hotel - and the furniture and fittings were tasteful and individual. The owner, Nicholas, greeted us on arrival, and we had wine downstairs in the lounge whilst the kids played billiards upstairs. There's a pool and lots of horses! You could easily imagine the chateau as the setting for the next "Knives Out" film. Breakfast was a simple continental selection with fresh bread and pastries from the village bakery, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Nicholas booked us a restaurant for dinner. The wifi worked fine, there was a heated towel rail in the bathrooms and the hot water was hot. The village of Loriges is a few kilometres away and the 12th century Abbey of St Gilbert is within walking distance. English and French are spoken.
