We stayed overnight in Wooler because we are elderly and prefer not to drive in the dark. We were there for a mid-day memorial. The Black Bull Hotel was conveniently located. The employees were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and perfectly adequate, and the breakfast was wonderful, but something in the bathroom made noise all night, despite our efforts to find and stop it. It wasn't horribly loud, but it was certainly there; it sounded as if the toilet tank was refilling constantly. So if I was giving a numerical score, I would give nine out of ten. We would certainly stay there again.

Have been visiting for nearly 30 years, love the beer though sad to say Bluebird bitter reduced its abv! Why change your most famous product? Spent the week but prices go up at weekends! £6.50 for an IPA during week £6.80 on Friday! Come on! Sadly the menu is same as 30 years ago but no longer value or quality, The Crown offers better quality and value, sadly the Black Bull needs updating but they seem to be living in past and trading on old reputation, even the staff were lamenting painting the restaurant was a waste of time and space! Saying the inn was losing money each week!

This place has sadly gone down hill. I've been going here for the last 30 years or more, always been a favourite. For good beer & food. The beer OK, but jesus christ its expensive, the food though is simply a joke. Chicken & Chips for £17 - consisted of a white chicken thigh (barely roasted) - probably microwaved, and the most awful white barely cooked chips. No salad, no garnish, nada - its almost like they're goading you to complain. So here I am, sad to say we won't be back, and we won't be recommending to others either. Sad really. Closed minded greedy owners - quite happy to flash their sports cars outside, so it doesn't seem they're short of a bob or two. Service also pretty basic, borderline rude, ignored at bar.

We called in to this dog-friendly pub for lunch whilst on a day trip to Coniston. Fabulous selection of award winning Coniston Brewery beers on offer. Shona had the cauliflower soup and I had a pack of crisps.

Brilliant pub with great beer and good pub food. We stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We ate in the pub on both evenings. The room was lovely and very clean with a comfy bed. The only disappointment was the quality of the breakfast. It wasn't poor quality but was average and a bit below what one would expect at this price

We booked on the basis of the pictures on their website which suggest that the rooms are boutique style, up market. Unfortunately, the reality is nothing like the pictures. The room was dirty (pop corn on the floor, unflushed toilet paper in the loo, scrunched up bed cover thrown into bottom of cupboard, no standing shower just hand held and little pressure and hot/cold water balance impossible to find. The room was small but the bathroom was tiny and scruffy (in comparison to the gleaming luxury of the website images). Breakfast was okay … bog standard full English mostly prepped from frozen. For all this they charged us £200 for one night! The staff were friendly and I’m sure it’s a nice place for a pint at the end of the day, but I wouldn’t stay here again.

After a long walk up to the old man of Coniston on a wet day. I needed a hearty meal. This place was perfect. I had cottage pie and asked for extra vegetables, the staff were so accommodating. My daughter had gammon and chips. She loved this meal too. Some lovely dishes to choose from. Dessert menu looks good too. I hope to return tomorrow.
