A very friendly and atmospheric 200 year old pub with low ceilings, old beams and a fabulous original flagstone floor. Super friendly and efficient staff. John and his colleague were attentive and pleasant - makes all the difference and our full English breakfast was off the scale. Delicious sausage, tasty bacon done to perfection and yummy mushrooms plus a poached egg, beans, tomatoes a potato fritter and cappuccino. Th ebest breakfast I have had anywhere! Welcoming, fast service and divine food. Highly recommend - thanks John and staff:)!

We went for the carvery Sunday lunch, 5 adults and a small well behaved dog. We let them know about the dog when we booked and the table location was perfect in the conservatory area. The adults included 3 in early 20's who can be very fussy and critical! We all had a lovely meal and the service was fantastic even though the pub was very busy. Plenty of choice and a huge selection of vegetables. The fussy ones stated it was the best carvery they had been to as it was hot, not all dried out and the best gravy! Really good value for money too. We will definitely be going again

New owners have given this a new lease of life. We went to watch the Lions game, went early to take advantage of their breakfast buffet. For the price you could not fault it. good quality produce used, plenty of it, fresh and piping hot. The staff were helpful and could not do enough for us. They selected a table that we could sit at and watch the rugby after we finished our breakfast. There were several screens from which you could watch it. Overall, great experience and will be back again after perusing their evening menu!

Firstly the positives great parking, the building looks fantastic and entrance hall stunning. Clean room. Now the rest. For £121 a night I expected better. Room was damp (as evidenced in photos) and small. Electrics are nit safe at all. Bathroom light switch hanging off and bedside lamp is broken with exposed wires. Frankly dangerous. Boasts WIFI but signal is so poor it cannot even be picked up by devices. Although shower is electric you cannot get in straight away it runs extremely hot then freezing cold before the water comes to temp. This place needs serious work to bring it upto standards to warrant £121 a night stay - have stayed in other pubs / hotels in the area for much cheaper, better kept and with breakfast included. Would not stay here again.

We stayed one night at this very pleasant pub, and in sub-zero winter temperatures, the room was warm and comfortable, with all amenities you could expect. At breakfast, the dining area in the pub seemed to have had a heating failure, and was very cold, but we were kindly offered a breakfast in our room instead, which was brought to us and hit the spot exactly. A kind gesture in the circumstances was that when we later tried to pay for breakfast, it was complimentary. The pub service in the evening was excellent, with a fire in the log burner that was much appreciated, and we would especially compliment the charming young woman who was serving behind the bar.

Stayed for two nights, from the evening we arrived we had the most friendly welcome from the young girl and landlord, we enjoyed an evening meal which was reasonably priced and top quality. Breakfast was more expensive but you certainly get what you pay for! Real bacon! We had a family room, which was abit dated but clean. We will definitely be back as ideal location for visiting local attractions in the Forest of Dean.

Very average accomodation . Mould in the shower. Rusty hook on the bathroom door and tv about to go on the blink . Charged for a king room and given a double . On checking this we were told the hotel was full and no king rooms available . ( we booked in February ) We requested a refund for the difference in price and initially were told the price we paid was for a double as we must have looked at the old website … I’d literally just double checked the website £110 for a king £100 for a double ! We got a refund in the end . We didn’t eat breakfast at the hotle as very expensive and found a lovely cafe on Lydney for half the price . Even the pub next door was cheaper where we ate on Sunday . Fancied a night cap after a meal out on Friday but the pub was closed at just after 9.30pm so again took our business to the Cross next door !

We are locals and have went here enough to be recognised by the staff. Although there is not usually much atmosphere here we enjoy a quiet drink. We have had a very bad experience tonight. We arrived around 9:40 on a Friday. We were served a pint. A little later we were asked if we would like another by the landlord (9:55) for last orders. We were given a second pint. The only other man there in the pub was playing very loud reels with the volume on max. My partner asked 'could you turn the volume down a little please', he did not respond, yet the landlord said (in retaliation) '10:07 only 3 minutes to drink your pint!'. We then asked if we were expected to leave due to politley asking the other client to turn the volume down. This was met with A LOT of abuse. Throughout we were very polite. We have never been treated this badly anywhere in the forest. If you are thinking of going here, the food is not good and the clinetal/landlord are hostile.

酒店回复: My apologies for your uncomfortable evening, unfortunately we cannot force a member of the public to stop using any such functions on a personal mobile phone. If you come in without company and some people are alone, many if not all are choosing a mobile phone as company rather than staring into space or sitting in an uncomfortable silence. That is a personal choice. We close at 22:00pm Last orders 9:45pm and yet you were still offered another pint at 9.55pm that doesn't sound like bad service to me. I don't believe that you had a meal that evening? and as for the comment regarding going elsewhere to avoid such clientele, in a small village with only 2 pubs you will find the offensive over stimulation of phone users there also and many of the same faces. We have spoken to the person involved and he has apologized for his outburst. We welcome you back for a meal. There is a £10 voucher here for you to use as a way of compensation. Once again, we are sorry for your unfortunate experience and hope that we have the opportunity to put that right. Kind regards Amanda
