We visited the County Hotel for an evening meal, and joined in with the regular pub quiz. Service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious, and we all found our favourites in an excellent menu. Food and drink was very well priced. The quiz was great fun with visitors and locals joining in. A great evening!

I’m absolutely disgusted by my recent stay at the County Hotel in Selkirk, which I had to book through my employer. From start to finish, it was a complete nightmare. I arrived and didn’t even have a code to get into the building. The bar staff tried calling the owner and head office twice, but no one answered. The call centre was practically useless, and I was left waiting in frustration with no help. The bar worker was apologetic and offered me a complimentary drink, but that didn’t make up for the absolute lack of professionalism and organization. Then, to make matters worse, the fire alarm went off during the night. Nobody knew what to do, and I was just told it wasn’t a real fire. This is terrifying and unprofessional, to say the least. The food service was a joke. It took forever for my meal to arrive, and when it did, the Chicken Masala was a watery mess—not even close to being edible. I had to order my breakfast the night before (how am I supposed to know what I want to eat for breakfast the next day?), and of course, it was late, cold, and terrible quality. The staff had an appalling attitude to top it all off. As for the room, it was on the top floor, which would be impossible for anyone with mobility issues to access. While it was clean, the décor was cheap, dated, and completely unappealing. To make matters worse, I later discovered that I had been covered in bites—clearly from some sort of infestation. For the price my employer paid (even with a discount), this hotel is an absolute rip-off. The service was appalling, the food was inedible, and the room quality was nothing short of embarrassing. I will NEVER stay here again, and I strongly recommend you avoid this place at all costs. This experience has been a complete disgrace.

Hotel has changed, now no staff you get in using a code, and use same to open your room. Room was good and clean. But no bar or restaurant. Do just a room only establishment. Avoid. To use code the door device is difficult to use. Must be better hotels nearby.

Stayed here for a night to watch a friend play at the marvellous String Jam Club. Have to say one of the nicest vegetarian meals I have eaten in a long time. - Innovative wild mushroom & asparagus risotto cakes with carrot & courgette tagliatelle & a spicy beetroot salsa with sweet potato wedges were superb! Our room was a little tired and in need of upgrading, but the bed was so comfortable and we were able to have our much loved pooch with us. At breakfast, we were pleased to see Eggs Florentine on the menu, one of my favourites. In fact, a fantastic all round breakfast menu on offer. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

What a great hotel. The owners are fabulous friendly people. Our room, 206 was huge and very clean with tea, coffee, biscuits etc and individual shower gels and shower caps in the bathroom. The breakfast was beautifully cooked to perfection. The owners work extremely hard. I’m really glad I found this place. Book this hotel you will not be disappointed.

Do not stay at this hotel, an incredibly rude duty manager and his boss on the phone... We were bookes into another hotel fully paid for and they had an issue with rooms being flooded and had arranged for us to stay at this hotel instead. We arrive check in and the room is fine nothing special. We went out for dinner and when we arrived back the duty manager stopped us and said the other hotel refused to pay, and asked us pay again Tried ringing the other hotel, no answer *********** were no help and they progressively got more rude and demanding about us paying even though they made an agreement with the other hotel, not with us. Eventually being incredibly rude and basically telling us to leave, if we didn't pay. Not letting us wait to get in touch with the hotel. They said "we are not paying this game" Atrocious customer service. We are now looking for a hotel at 8:30pm Update went to the original hotel and spoke the the manager who informed us they hadn't managed to be on phones during this time and had absolutely not refused to pay. The manager of the original hotel immediately refunded us and found and paid for another accommodation. So this hotel was having us on clearly trying to receive double payment... Level of service clear. The country hotel needs to have a look in the mirror and maybe they will see why they are struggling as they claim to be.

酒店回复: We don't usually respond to this kind of tripe, but we'll make an exception in your case. You're not a very clear thinker, are you? Firstly: You are not / were not / never will be our customer. To be a customer you would have needed to pay for goods or service. You did neither. Secondly: Your assertion is that we had already been paid by "The Hawick Hotel" for your room, and that simply was not the case. We spent FOUR HOURS trying to get them to pay and eventually they ghosted us - just as they did you, until you FINALLY took OUR advice and went to confront them. Thirdly: If they had paid us, why would they have handed over a refund to you? You already know the answer ... Next: This is the kind of thing that CAN happen when you make a NON-REFUNDABLE, PAY NOW reservation on *********** Finally: For your information, we’re certainly not struggling, as you suggest. All we need to do is to be paid for our services. We actually did our best to support and advise you but Kate just wasn't listening, becoming more belligerent as the interaction with our Duty Manager progressed. Doubtless you noticed the signs which are prominently displayed around the premises, some of which state that there are CCTV cameras and others which state that we will not tolerate abuse. We do have the WHOLE of the interaction stored on our security cameras, so we have incontrovertible evidence of who said what - and it also includes the two way audio of the telephone conversation you had with one of our directors. Finally ... the review immediately prior to yours was from someone who actually had *EXACTLY* the same experience with "The Hawick Hotel" as you did. Difference? Their room was paid for and they were nice people. Think about it.

Big thank you to Oliver for all his help when let down by another hotel at the last minute. We felt very welcome. Lovely big room (206) at the back of the hotel. Well presented. Comfy beds. Clean, modern shower room. Plenty of tea and coffee in room too. We didn't use the shared lounge and didn't have breakfast but it looked nice and well set up. No bar or restaurant but a few restaurants and takeaways nearby and we went to the pub down the road. Other guests were having takeaway in the lounge area and there is a fridge you can use in there.

The County is a beautiful old building in the centre of Selkirk, a rwo minute walk from the Walter Scott Courtroom. There is parking to the rear through the old archway. The owners are in the process of upgrading and decorating throughout. I received a warm welcome from Oliver who showed me around. My single en suite room was clean, comfy, well furnished and with everything I needed. Hairdryer, hospitality tray and some basic toiletries. TV with Freeview channels and ample electric sockets, including shaver point in bathroom. Walk in shower in bathroom. For breakfast there was a good choice of cereals, yogurts and a good cooked selection. All very tasty and enjoyable. At present the restaurant and bar are not open but guests are welcome to use the lounge area to eat a takeaway or sandwiches and to socialise. Hopefully the County will be fully operational once the improvements are complete. Advisory: being an old building there is no lift so you may wish to request a first floor room.

You have to work hard to get into this hotel, we had to wait 2 hours before we got access. Very steep stairs with no lift. Twin room is small and furnishings are tired. Bathroom with shower was adequate. No food available in evening but breakfast was fine.
