Avoid this hotel since you won't be staying in the building presented on most of the travelling web sites presenting this hotel. I got a room at the back of the building behind full garbage bins. I don't understand why this place is still listed.

What I love about this "hotel" is that it's in a great location, right in the heart of Old Town Quebec City. It was really nice to just walk out the door, and there you are, surrounded by restaurants and just a few blocks from the boardwalk overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The first problem was with the check-in. I booked this with credit card miles, so maybe if I'd booked directly the communication would have been better. But, as it was, I showed up about an hour before 4:00 check-in time, hoping maybe I could check in early. I had read that there is no reception, but you check in through a gift shop next door. Well, I get to the door that says Hotel Le Cavalier du Moulin, open it, and there's nothing there but a small space and two locked doors and some vague directions hand written on a white board. No phone number or other contact info. But I Googled it on my phone, found a number, called it, got a recorded message, pushed the button to speak with someone, got a message saying there's no one there right now to speak with. But there was a gift shop next door, so I went in. I was clearly not the first person to walk in there confused, and the gift shop is not affiliated with the hotel. But they did tell me to maybe try calling again after 4:00. So I went into an Italian restaurant a few doors down and got a pizza. At 4:00 I tried calling again and this time did get someone. They told me I should have received an email with check-in instructions. I hadn't, but they sent it to me then. She tried to direct me to where my room is, but that took some effort. Rooms are scattered around this area, so one is around a corner, another is through an alley, another is through the locked door I mentioned before. Mine, I finally figured out, was through a tunnel about 30 feet long, which led to an opening with stairways and dumpsters and an an outer door to the building where my room was. So, finally got in with the codes emailed to me. The room was fine. Not at all elegant, but clean and had everything I needed, which wasn't much. Bed was extra-firm. I had paid extra for a room with a fridge and microwave, which was very handy. Room also had some plates, flatware, etc., which was nice. There was also a toaster, electric kettle, and coffee maker across the back of the counter. Nice, right? But there was no electric outlet to plug them into. I used only the coffee maker, and set it on the floor on the other side of the bed where there was an outlet. Oh, the TV didn't work. I reported this on day one or two via email. They asked me to send them a picture of the error message on the TV screen, which I did. They said they'd send someone to have a look, but they never did. Checking out, I reminded them that the TV never did work, hoping they'd feel like they owed me a little consideration when I asked if I could delay checking out to noon rather than 11. Yes, you can check out at noon IF you pay for another hour. Really? So, I checked out at 11. I

Great location in old Quebec City, within walking distance to everything! We stayed 4 nights and the beds and pillows were comfortable and the host recommended several several restaurants nearby that were locally owned and served traditional food.
