We were meant to stay 3 nights here and only ended up staying 1. The rooms are tiny and like a prison with hardly any lighting and they smelt awful. The bathrooms are filthy & mouldy. Theres no where to dry your hands, the showers were cramped and unclean. The walls and doors are super thin so it’s pretty noisy. Wouldn’t recommend.

Absolutely rotten and disgusting. I have been travelling Asia and the east coast for a while and I can easily say that this hostel was the most disgusting place I slept at. As soon as me and my friends walked in we were met by the smell of pure sewage that frankly made me want to gag. The reception was slow to check us in as well as not letting us use the washer machines as they were backed up with bedding and towels. The room was small and also smelt of body odor. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and I found it really hard to sleep. I would not recommend going here as it is double as expensive as it should’ve been.

Chill Backpackers is not a hostel but a shelter for homeless people. At the check-in, we were told that our booking supports a shelter for people who are struggling with their lives. This facility should be next to the hostel in a separate building. After a few hours, we realized that the hostel was also full of homeless, live-struggling people. At night we were awakened by screams from the neighbouring room, we did not dare to go to the hallway and felt unsafe in our room. In addition, cigarette-fumed air came through the ventilation shafts, which made sleeping additionally more difficult, opening the window was not possible. When we complained after this night about the screaming and the smell of smoke in our room, this was pushed to the shelter next door, and we were assured that the neighbouring room ere also accommodated tourists. Early check out only without refund. The nightly scenario repeated itself, and the stay in the hostel became more and more terrible. In addition, it stank miserably in the hallways, in the room, you could not open the window, and there was no fresh air. In the kitchen, hardly any pots, plates, etc. were washed, glad to have our own cutlery.

I really enjoyed my time at Chill Backpackers! The staff were really friendly and super helpful. The location is really close to so many things, especially if you're just wanting to explore. The rooms are really clean and have quite a lot of space. There are mixed and women's bathrooms, which I found really good. They have a rooftop, which was a cool place just to chill out, as well as has a pool table and a TV room up there. Wifi works all around the building and is an awesome spot for backpackers or people just wanting cheap accommodation. They have limited parking but it's first in best dressed! Thanks to all of the staff for being amazing - I will definitely be coming back to stay when I come back to Brisbane!
