We stayed at the Compasses Inn for 3 nights between xmas and the New Year. Sumin was a consummate host, very attentive and professional, along with his great staff it made for a very enjoyable stay. The food was excellent and with a mixed menu that included a Nepalese option, we were spoilt for choice. The room, although dated, was clean and comfortable. All in all we had a fabulous stay.

On a recent visit, we sampled several standout dishes that showcased both creativity and care in the kitchen. The prawn tempura was a crisp and satisfying starter, It paired well with a tangy dipping sauce that added just enough zing without overpowering the seafood. Equally impressive were the chicken lollipops—succulent, well-seasoned, and served with a smoky coriander seeds coated. Pumpkin soup with toasted garlic bread was just the perfect choice before the starter. To wash it all down, we opted for the Neck Oil ale—a light, hoppy brew that was refreshing and an ideal pairing with the more indulgent bites. For the main, the lamb burger stood out. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right, it came stacked with fresh toppings. The linguini with seafood in creamy sauce was the highlight of the evening. Generously loaded with fresh prawns and mussels, the pasta was cooked al dente and coated in a velvety, well-seasoned cream sauce. Friendly staff and a warm atmosphere rounded out a truly enjoyable visit.

A must to visit if you are in the area , we both enjoyed different menus for our Sunday lunch, one Nepalese and the other a Sunday roast , we both left there extremly satisfied with the quality of the food, the very good family service and the price was so acceptable, find your way to the Compasses, Damerham

The staff were super friendly, welcoming, attentive and helpful. Room 2 was comfy but the mattresses need changing. Very clean establishment and we had an evening meal which was great (had to box up half of it to take home!) and the breakfast was excellent. It could do with a refurbishment as others have said but I'd start with the mattresses.

Had the sharing starter and a Nepalese lamb dish to share along with a coconut naan bread. It is unusual at my age to come across a new food experience. It was absolutely delicious, can't wait to eat there again and try the other dishes available. Thoroughly recommend!

Lime and soda served from hand held dispenser charged at £4! Haddock and Chips ordered for lunch at reasonable price but undercooked resulting in soft batter, limp chips and undercooked fish. Not surprisingly the pub was empty.

We arrived at the Inn and first it looked bit tired from the outside and when we went in we were met by a very cheery young man who introduced us to reception booked us in and took us to our room.. Our room was lovely and basic .. We found out there was no plug in the sink so we explained to the young man but he didnt understand what we meant. The next morning we came down to breakfast and met the lady sorting it out and mentioned to her.. she knew what we meant and hey presto when we came back from day out the new plug in the sink was fitted.. We certainly enjoyed our stay and the meal was beautiful the first night we had there. It was clean too and the shower was good in our room. There was minimal noise we slept very well indeed despite the room facing the road but it is very small village anyway. We will certainly stay there again as the atomsphere was good and staff very nice and friendly. We cannot fault anything at all with our room once the plug issue was sorted. The bed was so comfortable.. We aim to try for our room next time.

Visited twice recently and on both occasions the food has been exceptional. My husband and i both ordered off the Ghurka and Nepalese menu - i am coining the phrase ‘Ghurkanese’. The food on both occasions was so full of flavour, tender juicy meat and lovely vegetables. Even the nann bread was the best we have ever had. It even had a little crunch to it, so good! The pub is very tired and can really do with a freshening up as mentioned in other comments, but don’t let this put you off stopping off for a bite to eat. We highly recommend it. Cannot wait for our next visit.

Stayed with my 3 children (16,18,19) in the cottage in the barn. Very clean but also very dated with wonky curtains and only 2 chairs at dinning table for 4 of us. We stayed for 2 nights and paid £180 per night, which I thought was very very overpriced especially as breakfast was £12.50 each per day extra ( we decided against it). Very convenient for our visit but I felt like we paid too much for substandard accommodation. It was also very hot and we only had fan, which did nothing. The only positive, was the cleanliness and the staff. Definitely won’t be staying again, I’d rather camp in a field!
