You must pay by cash transfer 1 week before or on arrival. It's in the small print. NO CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS. Be aware: This is 2 separate properties. The 1st is a Guesthouse, where you get a warm welcome from Cristina and a lovely breakfast. The 2nd is an apartment block where you don't get a warm welcome from Cristina. In fact we never met her or saw any other staff after check in. Just a grumpy, young man checked us in and took us to the Apartments. The walk from check in at the Guesthouse to the Apartments is a fair way uphill with heavy suitcases. Make sure you know where you are staying. There is a separate link on *********** for Alvor Ar De Mar Apartmentos - See the reviews. We DID NOT book through that link. We were put in the Apartments which are a cross between a Hostel, a commune and the Inkeepers House from Les Miserables. The individual rooms have a very basic bathroom and a hairdryer. No other individual room 'facilities'. Everything else is communal. The beds are rock hard and the 1 pillow feels like there are pebbles from the beach in it. If you want more pillows....you have to pay extra. There are a lot of 'extras' charges, from sheets to pillowcases - see photo attached. There is no one around to ask for a change of towels or more toilet rolls etc. Oh and the shutters in the rooms are electric...no one told us that. Don't try to manually pull them down! You have to use them as you cannot undress in privacy as the torn, wafer thin excuse for curtains are laughable. There is a bar across with punters outside from 11am to 11pm. So no privacy. They can see in to the rooms and you can’t sit out, as nothing to see. But, when the shutter is closed it's like being in a prison cell! Bedding is changed once a week. Towels every 3 days if you ask, but there is no one to ask. The door number is chalked on the Architrave

My brother & I shared a room at the wonderful Ar de Mar Guesthouse in Alvor in June 2025. The place is well appointed & immaculately clean. It is bright, cheerful & colourful, just like its lovely host. The beds were comfortable with a small balcony to chill out in the not so chilly sunshine. The weather outside was a lot warmer than what I'm used to, both in the day at night, so I took full advantage of the excellent air condition that allowed me to chill inside as well. The breakfast was bread, cold meats, cheese as well as a range of yoghurt, which I enjoyed & ate every morning, along with cups of black tea (with milk & sugar) & orange juice. My brother found good value cooked breakfasts at the many fine restaurants & bars nearby. The location is excellent, just off the main shopping street on the one hand, and a short stroll from the beach on the other. The best surprise was the friendly welcome provided by host Cristina, who welcomed everyone in as if she was inviting us into her home. Cristina's chats & advice about the area were always welcome & her friendly greetings were genuine & made us feel at home. The cost of staying at the Ar de Mar was phenomenally low but Christine's hosting was priceless.

very comfy stay at this lovely accommodation. We were in their studio apartments with front balcony and large rear terrace just a minute or two away from the main apartments. Plenty of hot water, more than big enough for the two of us. Extra bedding available if it became chilly on an evening (it wasnt). Helped us with our cases when we arrived and drove us from the hotel to the studio. Loved our stay there.

As a seasoned traveler I should of known that when the host requested payment in cash it would not be a good place to stay, the location is in the centre of Alvor but that’s were the positives end, there is no amenities in the room, the wardrobes are industrial lockers you would have in a factory!, the beds are the cheap bouncy type and the breakfast is very basic and minimal, we booked for a week and checked out after 3 days, if you want a cheap hostel with no expectations this is suitable but if you want a resemblance to a nice stay, steer clear.

We stayed one night here and we’re so sorry to have to leave ! Cristina and all the staff were so welcoming, kind and generous in offering all they could to help us feel comfortable and “ at home “ . Room was spacious and we loved the decor . Breakfast offered us a great choice of breads , jams , cold meats , yogurts , fresh juice , tea and coffee and I particularly loved Cristinas homemade apricot cake , delicious! We will definitely return to the Ardemar and will highly recommend it to all we know ! Thank you Cristina and staff !
