We stayed at the Bearslake Inn for a mid January weekend break. Unlike many other reviews, I do feel our room was warm and, although basic, it had everything we needed for the weekend. Walls are thin but it’s a listed building with so much history and I think it’s part of its charm and character. It was also a huge bonus that it was dog friendly, it was spacious and in a great location. We ate at the Inn on our first night. Food is good but some of the options are ridiculously expensive. £28 for the venison and it was a tiny portion - definitely not suitable if you have a large appetite. My partner was disappointed and we both agreed it’s not worth the expense. Having said that, the burger and fries are both a good size and the desserts are huge. It is strange that there is such a huge variation between portion sizes. Chefs come out and chat to you which makes it a unique dining experience. As we had our dog, we ate in the bar which is incredibly dog friendly. Lots of dogs present in the bar. The bartender/waitress was lovely and kept giving our dog treats, it’s clear she loves dogs and she was great! We’d return to stay in the Inn but think twice about eating in the restaurant because of the £££ of the food - other local pubs have a similar atmosphere and great food but aren’t as expensive. I wish I’d taken some pictures of our meals to show what I mean!

We met with family that we haven’t seen for a while. What an incredible memorable experience. The service was excellent and very personal, the food was exceptional. Tom, the chef, recommended some of the courses which were thoroughly enjoyed. We were made to feel very special (which of course we are!) by Sue our waitress. One of our party commented “this is not ‘pub food’ it’s fine dining at pub prices”. I cannot think of a better recommendation.

We turned up at the restaurant and we're greeted by some really friendly staff, we asked if they were still serving food and i think we caught them at the point of stopping serving, but they squeezed us in, amazingly they have 1 pork roast left and 2 vegetarian left, which was incredibly ideal as thats what we wanted!! One staff member brought some treats for our dogs which was really lovely. The person who served us was incredibly friendly, he mentioned that he'd only been working there for 8 weeks, but it felt like hit fit right in with the place, he seemed so comfortable, making jokes and chatting to everyone around, it just made the place feel even more cosy. The vegetarian roast (a fancy pants pie) was incredible! it was without a doubt the best roast dinner i've ever had out! everything was so delicious, from the green beans to the parsnips and the potatoes were so crispy and fluffy!!!!! cannot wait to go back! already decided were gonna make a trip to here again!! only downside, they were a day early on the Christmas music! haha!

Not as good as remembered from previous stay hotel wise but bar restaurant good and believe a lot of the reviews that are very mixed do cover most points as there are still some lovely elements but a few points from me if I may! Beautiful location and surroundings and due to its age you will expect low ceilings quirky layout and a bit of a chill in parts especially this time of year However I agree that if it is cold and heating should be able to be controlled in rooms which are large and in the dark in our room 4 quite treacherous to move from bedroom to bathroom! Luckily we had a spare bed so our daughter could have an extra duvet from other bed but it was chilly in night as well as no tv in one end of room so had daughter in with us for bit to watch! She seemed miles away ! If you are looking for a lie in then not the best place as you can hear talking in other rooms, also every move made and the plumbing is so loud we likened to an aircraft taking off ! Bar and restaurant staff lovely and food we chose was really good - met chef who was very nice as well! Would probably prefer to eat in bar as more cosy Finally found out breakfast changed to very minimal cereal fruit and yoghurt which was a shame so didn’t bother as prefer cooked! Overall we had a lovely evening with family but the rooms not as good considering paid £170 with no breakfast - it would be better in summer but maybe even more!

We stayed here with another couple and 4 dogs between us and it was fabulous. The rooms are so nice, we had an amazing mug view over the garden and river. Touches in the room for the dogs were wonderful. The evening meal was delicious, as was the breakfast hamper. It really felt like we were spoilt. Would definitely recommend and return. Staff were brilliant.

What a hidden gem of a place. We went as a group of 4 for Saturday lunch and it blew our socks off! From the warm welcome and excellent service from the lovely Milly to the best surprise of all - the food! The chef had prepared a dedicated vegetarian menu for two of us which did not disappoint. My personal favourite was the spiced pumpkin velloute starter which was absolutely delicious but honestly, whether veggie or meat eater, everything was outstanding. My hubby had beetroot smoked salmon to start followed by steak, stout and blue cheese pie which he said was very tender and packed with flavour. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.
