As you can see from all of the other reviews, Jah Freedom Guesthouse, along with its owner, Steve, should be on anyone's radar when selecting accommodations in and around the Negril area. The place has everything you will need vacationing in Negril. Its location is central to 7 mile beach and the cliffs. The location puts you smack in the middle of the best Negril has to offer. From "real" Jamaican food, drink, and people. You will not want for anything. He also has some of the nicest, most well-behaved, and social pets. His dogs and parrot are awesome! Now to Steve....not only has his long-time residence in Negril benefit Steve, but benefits his guests as well. His knowledge and experience with the locals, food, drinks, music, area attractions, and everything Negril is priceless. He is a great guy who goes out of his way to ensure his guests experience the "real" Jamaica. When I travel, I never want to travel as a tourist. I want to experience my destinations as a "local." Steve will deliver to your wishlist. He did for me, and I'm so grateful for that. When I return to Negril, I will most certainly be contacting Steve. I had the pleasure of spending 8 days here recently and HIGHLY RECOMMEND Jah Freedom House for your next tropical island adventure. This is a unique property, well maintained and strategically located just up the hill from the beaches of Negril. Also, the bedrooms are on the 3rd floor. which means INCREDIBLE VIEWS and sunsets! There is no shortage of both chill island beach vibes here with local live music several nights a week - some with bonfires on the beach at night! The friendly host was helpful in suggesting local restaurants and fun things to do. One of the highlights for me was the glass bottom boat tour. This included a stop on the coral reef for snorkeling as well as a visit to a small island. The island had several pop up businesses including a tiki bar. There was also a lobsterman who would let you pick from among his fresh caught crabs and lobsters then prepare them over an open fire right there for you. Wow!! So tasty to be cooked fresh right there with exciting tropical spices!

Our stay at Jah Freedom We stayed with Steve and his awesome animals for just a few nights in March 2024. Steve was very accommodating and helpful. He was great at recommending restaurants and places to go see. We had great meals and visited some amazing local spots such as Xtabi, Just Natural and Rick’s. The house is quite comfortable and is an easy walk to many restaurants and a little beach near Canoe bar and restaurant. The room we stayed in was spacious and everything worked as it should. Steve checked in on us multiple times to ensure we did not need anything and made us feel welcome. We had access to his kitchen and he made me coffee every morning which was a wonderful way to start the day and enjoy the beautiful view. Steve seems to know everyone around Negril. We also loved visiting with his 4 doggies as we were missing our own furry family members. He also offered his services in case we needed anything (even pharmacy items) when he was out. I had to do some work while I was there and the wifi worked very well. He also took us to a few little places when we wanted to experience local fruits or if we needed any supplies. The house is wonderful with gorgeous views from the 3rd floor balcony. We were made to feel welcome and comfortable. We were allowed use of the whole house and the owner is a wealth of knowledge on local businesses. He saved us money on food by telling us the best places to go with very reasonable prices. We plan to stay here often as well as recommend this place to our friends and relatives. You can’t beat it!

My husband Jim and I vacationed in Jamaica last week. We were referred to Steve by a friend, who arranged for Steve to pick us up at the airport and transport us to our beachfront hotel in Negril. We expected Steve to just be our airport driver, but he became our guide during our entire stay. We hit it off beautifully, and a wonderful friendship blossomed over the week we were there. Steve knew all the great spots to take us to, especially live music venues, which was a priority for us. With his guidance, we ate at the best restaurants, heard talented musicians throughout the week, avoided any problem areas or overpriced venues, and met some very interesting locals who all knew and had great respect for Steve. He also invited us to his guest house, which is a wonderful option for those who don’t need a beachfront property. It is lovely, comfortable, and has an amazing view from his veranda. Had we not made other plans in advance, we would have been tempted to stay there, and will probably do so in future trips. Can’t recommend Jah Freedom Guesthouse and Steve’s services more enthusiastically!

Steve went above and beyond, making us feel welcome, taken care of, and made sure we had absolutely everything we wanted and needed. He showed us all the best places to eat (Just Natural for breakfast & Kool Vybez are absolutely essential!), swim, hang out, see live music (Roots Bamboo is a must!), and made sure we had coffee in the morning whenever we asked. The rooms are large, beds are comfy, and there are plenty of bathrooms with showers to accommodate a large group. Honestly couldn't recommend more. We will be back as soon as possible! My wife and I just returned from spending a week at Jah Freedom Inn. This was our fifth time visiting Negril but our first time not staying at an all-inclusive resort. We can happily report that after this trip we will be only be visiting non-resort lodges. Steve was such a great host from the time he picked us up at the airport. He gave us an aptly curated tour during our trip from MoBay to Negril, making it easy to see his love for the island. During our week long stay, Steve shared so much knowledge and love for Negril with us. He drove us to great **** huts, helped us get to a resort that offered daily use of their pool and beach (as long as you support the bar/grill), and suggested many great locations for us to enjoy dinner. Steve also spent an entire Saturday afternoon taking us on a great trek through the true Jamaican landscape so that we could go cool off in a river with kind locals. As for the amenities, we stayed in the Guava Room and our experience was great. The AC unit in the room, in conjunction with the overhead fan, kept the room cool and comfortable. The terrace we had access to had amazing views of the water, coast, and lush vegetation of Negril. The room and bathroom were kept clean by housecleaning staff and everything was great. We were even lucky enough to have a true home cooked Jamaican dinner one night with Steve, in addition to the breakfasts of cut up fruit that we enjoyed on the terrace. One of the best places we ate at during this trip, Canoe Bar, is only a quarter mile down the road from the house. Here you can find great breakfast, lunch, or dinner options, plus an amazing area of beach that is open for swimming or snorkeling if you’re looking for easy access to the sand and ocean. Overall, Jah Freedom Inn is a very fine option for lodging in Negril. Steve is an awesome host who will go above and beyond to make your stay memorable and to help you enjoy a truly unique experience. We can’t wait to return.

I did not stay at Jah Freedom Guesthouse but a friend recommended the owner - Steve - as a tourguide and he really exceeded my expectations. I ended up doing several day trips with Steve and he had lots of good recommendations and took me to wonderful beaches and restaurants that I would not have found myself and that were not touristy. He has lived in Jamaica for a long time and knows the island - especially Negril - really well. I can highly recommend him as a guide - he showed me the guesthouse which looks great, will certainly stay there next time I visit Jamaica.
