Located in the Old Town; probably the only hotel with free parking. Spacious rooms. Brkfst - OK The AC in the room was beyond loud; it was puffing like a generator, and producing little cool if any. Receptionist said she knows about the problem but nothing can be done, because all the rooms are the same..... After a bad night I spoke with another receptionist, who replied the same. He also said nothing could be done about the VERY weak wifi signal. I asked to pass a message to the manager. Returning in the afternoon, there was no response from the manager. Only after I became assertive, the receptionist at long last came to my room; installed there a router; pressed some buttons on the AC and cleaned the FILTHY filter; thus solving both problems - almost 24 hours after I checked in. There are also problems with the shower, safebox and daily cleaning.

If you're visiting Alba Iulia, Hotel Medieval is the place to stay for an unforgettable experience. Set inside the 18th-century bastion fortress of Alba Carolina – one of the largest Vauban-style citadels in Europe – this hotel combines historical elegance with modern comfort. We stayed in a deluxe room with a view of the Three Fortifications Route, which can be visited for free by hotel guests. The architecture and décor made us feel as though we were stepping into a nobleman’s residence from centuries past. The restaurant was equally impressive: gourmet meals prepared by skilled chefs, served in a historic setting with impeccable service. Highly recommended for history lovers, couples, and anyone looking to stay somewhere truly special!

This is a FANTASTIC place to stay. It is an C18 castle, nicely refurbed into a hotel. Beautifully historic, very atmospheric. Remarkably good value. If you have stayed in a Paradore in Spain you will know the kind of place. The room was huge and the bed likewise. The wall was so thick you can use it as a seat, looking out over the moat and outer walls. Bathroom has one of the biggest baths o have ever seen. The breakfast was excellent and Then sitting outside looking at Roman ruins. I read the other reviews and I am astonished by them. It is not a modern chain and if you Want that, stay somewhere else. But it is very lovely Highly recommended

Good: spacious rooms. Nice views. Friendly staff. Bad!! : No Aircon. STAY AWAY FROM THEIR FOOD! It's ridiculously lousy. The fish we ordered (dorada and salmon) were both dry when it finally arrived. The tomato-cucumber salad was not available since there apparently were no cucumber - so we asked to mix the tomato with some green salad instead. What we got was a bowl of half-old brownish iceberg salad with two (2) slices of tomato. Waiting time was long. Some plates were filthy, salt/pepper set was really greasy as well. Oh, forgot that my husband found a piece of plastic in his food. Breakfast was as bad! Juice of the processed sugary thin kind in two versions. Cold egg/sausage pans. 3 kinds of ham/salami. 1 kind of jam. Everything cold and looking as if from day before. Little selection. Dirty spots on the table cloth, an ant running over it. All of it in a not-airconditioned room without the option to go outside in the shade somewhere. This hotel seems to be dying which is a shame because the settings/surroundings are magnificent. Resumé: go there if you like historic buildings and views, like to sweat and don't care for food. NOT 5 ***** AT ALL!!

Does not deserve 5* Location is excellent, staff was very welcoming but .... bad ratio quality price : AC was noisy and unefficient, one window was broken and could not be closed properly, very small shower, only one toilet paper roll, not enouth plugs although the breakfast started officially at 0700, the buffet was not complete at that time which is not good as we had to leave rightaway

This is an old army barracks that has been renovated with much attention to detail and attempt to create the impression of an old medieval castle. Our room was huge. Breakfast was a lavish spread and enough for a castle full of people. Unfortunately there did not seem to be many guests around and we imagined the hotel would feel very different with more people in evidence. No internet.

Such a nice hotel! Located in the medieval fortress, very clean, very comfortable bed and pillows, quality furniture, we loved our stay there. Maybe breakfast can be improved a little, but overall we were impressed.
