I booked Cottages by the Creek for my family (myself, my wife, and two kids) for December 25 for a night, based on several positive reviews. I was unsure whether those reviews were genuine or marketing-driven, but I still arrived with high expectations. I am a frequent traveller and have visited many destinations across India, from Delhi to Kashmir. I usually have positive experiences and enjoy writing good reviews. Unfortunately, this stay stands out as one of the worst experiences I have had, especially considering the hype and the location in Kodaikanal. Apart from one or two minor positives, nearly everything else was disappointing. 1. Pricing & Booking The room tariff is average to above average. Since it was peak season, the pricing itself was not the main issue. The booking was handled by Revathy, who was helpful during the booking process. However, after the booking was confirmed and I reached Kodaikanal, there was no response on WhatsApp, and I never met her at the property. She may have been busy, and I was not particularly disappointed by this, but it reflects the lack of coordination and accountability at this property. For 2 adults and 2 kids with an extra bed: Initial quote: ₹7,350 + extra bed charges (without breakfast for the 4th person) Final amount paid: ₹7,700 including breakfast for all four + Rs.1656 at Canteeen The amount was paid without hesitation. 2. Room Quality & Balcony The so-called “extra bed” was merely a sofa, which is unacceptable for a family stay. The room itself was small and poorly planned. Although a balcony was promised, it offered no view whatsoever—only the backside of nearby buildings. This is extremely disappointing for a property in a hill station and feels misleading. Wifi: VERY WEEK SIGNAL. 3. Manager’s Behavior (Mr. Vinod) This was the biggest failure of the property. The manager, Mr. Vinod, displayed zero hospitality. From the very first interaction, his behavior was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. No courtesy, no empathy, and no willingness to assist guests. His responses were mostly one-word answers, and at times he did not respond at all. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable in the hospitality industry. Other staff members—such as Mahesh and the Nepali gatekeeper—were polite and helpful, which clearly shows that the issue is not with the staff in general but specifically with the manager. If the owner values the reputation of this property, this issue must be addressed immediately, as this behaviour alone is enough to drive guests away. 4. Road Access The road leading to the property is in terrible condition and is practically suitable only for SUVs or 4x4 vehicles. Regular cars can reach the property, but they will suffer significant damage. The road is full of rocks, broken surfaces, and uneven terrain. Reaching the property safely depends largely on luck rather than proper infrastructure. 5. Restaurant & Food Service The restaurant appearance is misleading; the food quality and

It’s a pure vegetarian hotel serving very good food. It is located around 2 km from Kodai Lake, with a pleasant drive to reach the hotel. The staff and chef are very well-behaved.

Beautiful location, big rooms ( creek view). However the creek view is only for name sake, as there is a thin stream of water flowing. Good food

Good location but bad roads and quite far from the city. The food and hospitality was excellent but totally vegetarian and going out to get non veg food was next to impossible since the climateis extremely cold and food would get cold by the time it would reach there. Rooms and washrooms were good but outside maintenance was quite poor and could be improved. View of mountain obstructed due to the poor maintenance of the tin sheets above the kitchen which was just next to the room. Overall the cost could be reduced because the day we arrived, there was no power annd they did not switch on the genset. So we had to go out to the city and spend time there till power supply was restored. They could have made our stay memorable by switching on the genset when we had arrived.

The property is located in a remote area and far from the city, nothing much to do around the property as well. Great food but limited options, all our requests were handled very well and fast. Overall it was a good stay.
