This was our 3rd stay at Anvil Campground. Always enjoyable, this time was special, Anvil scheduled Saturday 6pm as a time for trick or treat for the kids. We dressed up as 18th century soldier & wife as we greeted the kids. Staff is great, always helpful on phone and in person. We will be returning in December

I've now stayed here two separate times in September 2025 and October 2025 and I plan to return in February 2026. I do not have a trailer or travel home so I rent the Apprentice cabins there are three (3) of them. I absolutely love the location. The Cabins are great, although if you stay in one be prepared to have to leave to go to the bathhouse for the rest rooms. The cabins do not have bathrooms. They are designed for solo, small families and can sleep up to 6 people. Atmosphere is of a quiet hole in the wall camp site. Cleanliness is superb. The price is right and the employees are wonderful people and they remember you each time you go back.

Excellent location closer to everything yet far enough away to still be camping! Overall the campground is not very large but the space has been used to its maximum potential and without complaint. Staff could not be nicer.

This is a nice little campground. Please note its size, but that was a plus for us! It is tricky with a big fifth but doable. I can’t speak enough about how friendly the staff are, wonderful to walk around. They have a nice play area for the kids that’s actually sand so it’s very beach like- they loved it! We had a premium site and the swing, table patio was a nice addition. The store was surprisingly well stocked and fair priced. Also they do a ton of activities for the kiddos! I took away stars however for the following reasons: Check with the desk about your premium site- the patio for ours was behind the coach instead of walking out the door onto a patio. I believe some are under the awning area but ours wasn’t, maybe due to the size of our unit? There is also no light by the patio- not advertised so no points taken there but would be nice. Going back to a small campground, it’s very homey until…..your slides open right onto your neighbors awning- very narrow. We also weren’t a fan of the “privacy” walls for the patio- if you sit on the swing you look directly into someone’s camper or they looking at you. Also regarding privacy we could be having dinner on our patio and have random kids /family playing ball in the grass feet away so the lawn area is not separated from the patio. One other area is the inaccuracy of photos- some are years old- for instance there is no longer an orange and rattan seating area by the pool but it looks as if maybe it were moved to the store area? The next complaint might seem snooty but there shouldn’t be weeds growing in the stone that has the “decorative” bushes. I did see someone spraying but it’s futile. Little things like that make it seem run down. There are cute plastic decorative stones though, cliche but fun! The bathrooms are nice but the men’s room seemed to have an issue with removing the steam. There’s a box fan up on the sinks but when I look up there are exhaust fans in each stall, maybe they are just not working. I almost feel like once this was voted the best by someone the grounds became less manicured, solely my opinion but we all thought it was significantly different from online photos. Not the campgrounds fault but the tv is snowy at times, great WiFi though! Lastly this could be a profit con for some. For us it was a pro others it could be a deal breaker. The freight train is literally steps from the campground and is so loud it at times shook the couch. We loved it watching to see if they were full, empty, how many locomotives even leaned that some are put in the middle. We really liked looking out the window and watching it go by- I’ll admit it woke me up once or twice but not Anvils fault. Others might find this a complete annoyance.

酒店回复: Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review and for choosing Anvil Campground. We’re glad you enjoyed our friendly team, the Beach Park Playground, the well-stocked store, your premium site amenities, and our location close to Colonial Williamsburg. It’s also great to hear your family enjoyed our activities and that the train added to your experience — it’s been a unique part of our surroundings for all 71 years, and many guests love watching it go by. We’re proud to have received both state and national campground awards from respected hospitality associations, and we see that recognition as motivation to keep improving each year. Your feedback is part of that process, and we’ll share your comments with our team so we can continue making the guest experience even better. We truly appreciate your visit and hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future.

We loved the convenience of being close to almost everything we wanted to do in the area. Very nice, well maintained campground. Most importantly, the owners and staff are so kind, helpful and genuinely friendly. They are always ready to assist with suggestions and recommendations as well as service in the campground. We will be back!!

Probably the friendliest and helpful staff we have experienced in our travels. We have reserved a return in October and December

We stayed at Anvil to be close to Bush Gardens, Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. It was great for that purpose. The icing on the cake was the staff, clean restrooms and condition of the campsites.

We booked for a family getaway with my son and his wife coming on the 3rd day of the trip with plans to pitch their tent behind site 70. We got there and setup and literally an hour later the first train came through. Then behind the site was the road, so there was no way my son or daughter in law were going to be able to sleep there. No trees for shade and my neighbors slide made it so it could not extend my awning. Plus when we reserved we requested and we're told we were getting site 46. They called the day we were to arrive and had moved us. The staff was friendly enough, but we moved after 2 nights at our expense to a much quieter campground. Don't plan on going back to Anvil.

酒店回复: Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear your stay didn’t meet your expectations, and we’d like to provide some helpful context for future guests. Your reservation was for one of our Premium Patio sites, which includes a grassy area behind the site commonly used by guests for tents or relaxation. It’s a very popular choice for families, and we haven’t received feedback suggesting that the area isn’t suitable for tenting. You mentioned being moved from your originally requested site. To clarify: you reserved a site type, not a specific site number, and you did not opt to add the optional site selection fee, which guarantees a particular site number. As a courtesy, we added your request to the notes and did our best to honor it, as we do for all guests. Often these requests work out, but not always—especially during busier periods. As for your comment about road and train noise, we understand every guest has different sensitivities. That said, our location has remained the same for over 71 years, and the vast majority of our guests—including many families and tent campers—do not find either to be a disruption. If they were a widespread issue, we would not be one of the most awarded and highest-rated campgrounds in the country, including: 2024 Virginia Campground of the Year National RV Park of the Year (2022 & 2018) 2019 Williamsburg Small Business of the Year Top ratings on Google, TripAdvisor, and other platforms Our staff made every effort to assist before and during your visit, and we’re genuinely sorry we couldn’t meet your expectations. We wish you the best in your future travels.

Clean cabin and nice staff members. I didn't like that we didn't have the pillows and the comforters ( but got informed about it before the trip ). Our cabin was by the railway so it was super loud, I couldn't sleep. The bathroom is not connected to the cabin ( and I also knew about it before coming to the place). My husband said the men's bathroom smelled absolutely horrible.

The reservation needed to be canceled due to an emergency surgery of my family member while on the way to Anvil Campground. Anvil KEPT the ENTIRE COST, not just a deposit. That means they are making a profit from our family's hardship, since now they are able to rebook the same site. Sad & shameful, it's not always about money, good luck with your Karma.
