Room floor creaked as you walked across it, carpet is dirty and stained, bathroom is unprofessionally maintained with rusty fixture, dirty stained tile. Pictures on the internet show this to be a lovely establishment. NOT SO!

We stayed for 4 nights.(Room 29) The room was clean. The staff was friendly. The pool was also great. Super location too! The only complaint would be the towels, small and kind of hard. But overall a great stay! Beds were comfortable too!

The place is a little tired - needs some tender loving care. The parking lot needs to be cleaned of debris and the whole place could use some brightening up but it was a comfortable room albeit also somewhat tired and outdated. We were tired and found this place as it was beginning to rain or may have looked around a little more for a room. The carpeting needs stretched, the furniture needs updated, the television is the old tube type, and the linens must be pretty old. The bathroom was clean and that was a plus! The place has a pool and I did peek in the window but don't have enough information to comment on it. Look at the room and pool first if you're thinking about a night's stay would be my suggestion.

My two kids and I stayed in the family suite. It was nice for everyone to have their own bed and I had a separate room with a TV. They also had a TV. The pool was too cold to use but the hot tub was nice and perfect for three people. It wasn't crowded so that was nice. Don't count on breakfast though. There was one Danish and some cereal to choose from at 9am. Overal, not bad but nothing fancy.

I stayed at the Great Western Colorado Lodge for my first time a few years ago and I kept a positive memory of the place. This time, in mid october 2015, before opting for this motel I had a look at other options in town since I was somewhat doubtful it was still the good place I knew. Part of the motel was under renovation and I feared first that the whole motel was closed , second that this fact might ruin my rest. All other accomodations I checked were definitely more expensive and I made my mind to give the Great Western one more chance. And it was a very good decision. For a very competitive rate I was offered a very ample and impeccably clear room, equipped with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, ready available hot water, a comfortable bed, jacuzzi and wi fi.. Because of the ongoing restoration breakfast was not served anymore but the difference of rate compensated for this lack. Once you can count on a coffee maker and a microwave in your room you can fix any kind of breakfast you desire. The location is good, quiet and very close to stores, restaurants and just a few minutes from downtown Salida. The owners/managers are very friendly and courteous. Would I stay at the Great Western again? YES without any doubt. Would I recommen it a friend? YES without any doubt.

There are better places to stay in Salida for the same price. Ok if this is your only option. They have signs all over the place that they don’t offer breakfast. I get it and don’t need multiple reminders. Staff person could be a little more friendly.

This place is very old. The bathroom is scary. Bad coffee and the towels are worn rags. They did have a nice pool and good beds. These are the hotels you get stuck at late at night. Try your best NOT to stay here. Maid staff were friendly and nice. So, some good things.

I would appreciate it if this hotel would add a couple of clauses to the terms, one that says something about extra laundry causing an extra fee, and another one that says something about how nonviolent guests will be given at least four hours notice before they have to evacuate if the hotel asks them to leave. Either of those things would have signaled to us to do our own laundry, which I believe would have helped none of us experience the stress of what actually happened. When my parents and I arrived back at our hotel at the end of a long day with my two young children, we were told that our family had ruined a mattress due to our youngest having an accident, and so we were being immediately evicted and charged a $200 fee. When we went back to our room, we could find no evidence whatsoever that the mattress had been damaged, or even that urine had penetrated past the first sheet. When we walked back to the lobby to try to persuade the receptionist to consider an alternate solution, he immediately called the police, which terrified our children and was totally unnecessary, as we were already packing up to leave. The police were rude to my mother, who was acting respectfully toward them. The sudden eviction was very stressful, since Salida has very few vacancies last-minute. We’d already made reservations for activities throughout the next few days that we couldn’t cancel, so we wound up jumping from one hotel to the next, living out of our cars food between check-outs and check-ins. It was so stressful that my parents left to go back home a few days early, and it gave my parents such a bad impression of Colorado that they’re reluctant to try to visit me and my kids again. When the hotel manager was informed by my dad’s credit card company that they had approved a stop-payment request for all but the nights we actually slept at the hotel, not the additional days they tried to charge us or the $200 for “replacing the mattress”, the manager wouldn’t quit calling and texting my mother’s phone. I told her that my parents were too stressed out by their experience to want to talk to anyone from her hotel anymore, and my mother messaged her that she was being blocked. Despite that, she reached out again several days later, from a new number, implying that she wanted to resolve our dispute amicably. We didn’t respond because the first time she left a voicemail saying something very similar, I called her back, and she proceeded to talk nonstop over me, yell at me, and hang up when I told her that I was going to give her one last chance to try to make things right. If she meant what she said in her text, then her refunding my dad the first two nights would be a show of good faith that he would receive as a message that he should never have been evicted for generating too much laundry. I’m not sure that any action at this point could make any of us want to Salida again, or recommend this hotel, but a change to the terms and conditions would probably be

Salida is quite an expensive town to stay in. We arrived just before dark and a short rainstorm greeted us. It was a Thursday evening and many of the motels were full. The fellow in the office was friendly and almost immediately told us that they didn't offer breakfast. We were given a room at the front, facing the main road. I thought it would be noisy, but the traffic really died down quickly. Our room had a weird angle to it which made it quite large. There was a separate room that had a sink and large counter. The bathroom was also large and the tub was also a jacuzzi. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Our stay was relatively short but refreshing.
