I booked a room for My Best Friend's wedding. Unfortunately my brother passed away in the hotel refused to cancel or refund any part of the reservation. I even ask them if they needed proof of my brother's passing and they still refused to refund any parts of the 3-day reservation. Even the third party I booked the reservation through would have refunded the reservation. They just needed the approval from the hotel. After working in a hospitality for several years. It's up to the hotel whether or not they refund a guest in circumstances like mine. When traveling out of the country I would recommend paying when you arrive.
