Thieving pub parking. I stopped here to take a call as there was no offstreet parking anywhere in the area. Not more than 10min. A week later, I get a nice parking penalty charge from this place. Ridiculous!

We went to lion brewery jam night on Thursday night to catch up with friends and a bit of music. Two weeks later a parking fine popped through the letterbox for £100 early payment £60. We used to go to the music jams quite often but not for a while .You apparently have to now register your car on a computer. None of my family saw signs or a computer and the barmaid didn't mention registering our car. We phoned the pub and they said they would try to cancel the PCN but no guarantees. Not happy.we won't be going back.

I visited for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago (Feb2025) for the music night. Two weeks later (today) I have received a £100 parking fine because I failed to register my car at the bar. It was dark outside and I saw no signage and so was totally unaware of this requirement. However, on the plus side, I have just telephoned the pub and the delightful 'Dawn' managed to cancel the ticket for me. Please take care to register your car.

At 1st glimpse it is like stepping back in time. The landlady has described it exactly as it is. A no frill pub which must be remembered it’s a pub not a hotel. It is very basic and there is room for improvement but it will be a pity to destroy the feel of the place. When we arrived we were greeted by the landlady who was very polite. She showed us to our room and said if there was anything we needed to give her a shout. We could not get over that their kitchen never closes. We had to walk through the kitchen to get to our room and the kitchen was clean and tidy. It is a shared bathroom and again is old as is the pub. There is live music most nights do it is worth checking if you want a quiet night. The regulars made us feel very welcome, chatting away. There was also some people practising folk music who invited us in to join them. It was lovely. Nothing is too much trouble for this couple who run this pub. Asked for a fan and she gave me hers out of her office. The landlord is 83 years old and cooked our dinner and breakfast. They both work very hard. If your are looking for a modern stay then choose a hotel but if you are not fussy and looking for tradition and history then stay here. I think it how you approach things that can make things good or bad Thankyou for making us so welcome and we hope to see you again.

All I can say is very cheap for a reason .. Single room booked, but given a 3 bedroom. Towel, bedding & pillows clean, but mattresses on 2 of the beds very badly stained (possibly urine) the other very tired and sagging in the middle. All in a the place is very tired...

The toilet and King Henry VIII hunting ground demarcation stone tour was exceptional. The guide was very knowledgeable and I totally enjoy the tour. It was very interesting to learn that the stone marked the end of King Henry VIII deer hunting area from Ash to Hampton Court. It explains why the stone can not be moved and the pub was built on top of it. Amazing and this is a must do experience and totally free.
