What an underrated little guest house - so nice. Big rooms, classic feel, modern fittings where needed, very comfortable. Lovely staff. No food - they don’t do breakfast - but there are cafes a short walk/drive away. My room was very cold but we were having a cold snap - the kind staff brought me a heater but I might avoid this room in the dead of winter again! Otherwise fantastic..

It is old, tired and a bit shabby, but it is clean and comfortable and where could you get a double room that close to Heathrow for £70 a night. Room had both a microwave and refrigerator. Twenty minutes walk from the centre of Maidenhead and a filling station selling cheap petrol close by. The owner was very helpful and informative.

I have been staying at Norfolk House regularly for the past eight years. It is always a most welcoming and friendly experience. Joe, Gavin, Sarah and the staff always go the extra mile. On Tuesday there was an issue with the hot water to my shower. Joe arranged for me to use another shower and I went out for a two hour walk. When I returned Joe and Gavin had the problem solved. I stay in several hotels regularly over the Home Counties but Norfolk House is by far the best.

I booked a single room for a 2 night stay as the location was great. However, the room was not clean l, thick dust, spiders and cobwebs around the room, mouldy ceiling in the bathroom, shower not clean, dirty, and dust all around the room really. I felt embarrassed to complain, but at the end of the day, I paid for my stay when really I should have complained and refused to pay, but I'm not like that. The owner was polite and friendly, but it doesn't compensate for the basic running of a hotel.

It was the first Friday in November and I think we were the only people staying. So it was splendidly quiet. My partner arrived first and checked us in so, for the first time ever, I stayed in a hotel and never encountered another human being outside the two of us. Which felt a little odd. I have no idea why the hotel should be so empty. The 2 hotels in the immediate vicinity are not as good in my opinion, the hotel has a car park, is a short walk from restaurants and pubs and is very quiet. The rooms are clean and comfortable and it seems well-maintained. Being the only 2 people staying but won’t stop me staying for a third time when I need somewhere close to Heathrow or for a visit to Maidenhead. It’s great value for money and I like the place.

Disgraceful description not even close to the actual experience. The hotel” description is, “Georgian manor, 3 acres garden, bar, bright dining area…. free Wi-Fi”. There’s no bar or restaurant or Wi-Fi. It’s a run down house set in a junk yard complete with skips, shipping containers, old scaffolding and bird stained garden furniture … Booked for 3 nights - stayed 1 night and then got out due to a serious attack of self esteem…

Our decision to stay here for one night spoiled a weekend, and was a complete waste of time and money. Although we’re very circumspect in choosing hotels, it’s hard to do well when a business tells barefaced lies about its facilities. This hotel is still promising [at the time of this review] that guests “have access to a sun terrace, baggage storage, and newspaper. You can also enjoy a pool and free breakfast.” Well, the ‘sun terrace’ overlooked the empty, dirty pool, so not the best view. Who knows about ‘baggage storage’? It’d have been an error, as there was never anyone at reception. We’d booked specifically to ‘enjoy the pool’, so asked about it at check-in. The response: “1600 pools in the UK – closed.” This baffling reply made us feel as if we’d wandered into some surreal pub quiz. It seems we were then given a slightly bigger room, to ‘compensate’ for the fictitious pool. [I later walked about the room in my swimsuit, but honestly, it wasn’t the experience we’d hoped for.] The room was clean – though that short-lived quality was spoiled by the stench of cooking that permeated the room that evening; the mix of fish and stale oil smells was so bad that we had to put on the extractor fan in the bathroom throughout the night. The ‘free breakfast’ was not. “A full English is £15,” we were told, “and £10 for a small one.” So, that’s what we paid for. The full English had the cheapest possible ingredients, and the ‘small one’ was in fact, ‘continental’, with a few Dairylea and Babybel cheeses, some fruit and a cold, stale croissant. At least the cat wasn’t sitting on a dining chair, as it had been when we arrived. I do think that someone should take responsibility for the running and marketing of this place. And perhaps the same grown-up should realise that putting ‘hazard tape’ around a dangerous, broken floor tile – at the base of the stairs – is not an alternative to actually mending it. A thoroughly miserable experience. Our advice: avoid.

Very clean room, very welcoming upon arrival. Lovely high ceilings in our room. Atmospheric. Easy reach of clivedon. We stayed one night. Walked into town for evening meal. Unfortunately couldn't accommodate us for breakfast. Marked a little down as struggled with a small double bed and one of us ended up sleeping on the floor (which was lovely and clean). Would gladly visit again but for us maybe a twin room next time

Arrived later in the evening after a family bbq to check in, very friendly and helpful staff, was supposed to go with partner who ended up being ill so stayed on my own reluctantly but room was paid for so didn’t want to waste, room was lovely, bathroom great, kettle and coffee in morning in room and even had hairdryer in draw, didn’t stay for breakfast but will definitely stay again, you can see the pool and grounds are being dealt with so no problem for me where view was concerned, home away from home

The hotel has probably seen better days but once inside it wad very comfortable, clean and well fitted out. We needed to stay in the area for a night and didn’t want to stay in one of the soulless big chain hotels. The Norfolk House fitted the bill, although they could probably do with tidying up the front. We booked two rooms and they were both fine. Breakfast was fine in the morning. They did have a bar which we didn’t use nor the restaurant but not sure if this is only open on certain nights. The owners and staff were very friendly,
