Upon arrival Evan met us in the driveway. As we toured the b&b he regaled us with the rich history of the home and family. If I’m honest the home was overwhelming at first. However, as we settled in we relaxed and enjoyed the grounds, the pool and the charm. Breakfast was seriously second to none. With fresh juice and fruit and homemade delights galore. If you enjoy history, relaxing and charm this is a gem.

What a wonderful experience. Evan met us when we arrived, and his passion for the Inn was obvious from the very start! He gave us a tour of the property and escorted us to our room, explaining and telling us about he history of the Inn and it's abundance of exquisite collectibles. Unfortunately we were there for only one night, as there was a so much history and things to see. Evan is so very passionate about he property. Breakfast was an experience in itself. Not only is Evan an outstanding host, he is quite the chef as well. If you ever travel through Mystic, this should be a must stop place for you, you will not regret it! We look forward to returning some day.

The House of 1833 is a beautiful old home with an amazing collection of antiques. It is surrounded by old English style gardens. In late September we were a bit too early for fall colors. The owner is delightful and helpful and the food was wonderful!

Fantastic experience! My husband and I have been staying at Bed & Breakfasts for years to celebrate our anniversary, and this is one of the best we have found. The 3-course breakfasts were out of this world and the house has so much history on display. The rooms are amazing and we met some fabulous people at breakfast each morning that also loved their rooms and we traded visits to each other's rooms to ooh and aah over each room's unique attributes. We stayed in the Cupola Room for two nights. The carpet was lush, the canopy bed was amazing, and the Jacuzzi tub was luxurious. A narrow flight of stairs in the room leads to the cupola (a little room with windows on all sides and two arm chairs to enjoy the view). A decanter of sherry was available in the room, and we enjoyed ours in the cupola. There are many delicious restaurants in the area and lots to do rain or shine. We highly recommend this B&B and the Cupola Room. We will definitely be back!

We have been coming to House of 1833 for over 20 years and it's like coming home every time we visit. It's a wonderful place with a wonderful owner. The exquisite breakfast is only a part of the total experience. The rooms are beautifully decorated with period furnishings and the history and art are not to be matched! The owner, Evan provides customer service that surpasses the Ritz Carlton!

It was a great stay. It was our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and will certainly not be our last now with such a great experience we had at the House of 1833. Evan was an exceptional host/chef. He gave us a tour of the home and the history. The breakfast in the morning was incredible from the homemade apple cranberry muffin to the Greek Italian Mac & Cheese Spinach Souffle. We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a quiet, yet close to town place to stay.

House of 1833. What a DELIGHT! From the unique interior to the beautifully appointed rooms to the gourmet 3 course breakfast. The attention to detail is beyond exceptional. The stately 1833 Greek Revival mansion is extraordinary. It's everything you expect from an 1833 home, gorgeous wide-plank flooring that creaks from a well-worn past. An exquisite hand-painted staircase mural more than 100 years ago completes your entry. The stories of the home are told from the colorful owner Evan Nickles. He speaks as an historian, from his family's colorful past, to present, Evan gives life to every piece of furniture and oddity. Mr. Nickles is a delightful gentleman, a wonderful storyteller, and an extraordinary cook, from his apron to his chefs hat. The home is a complete story, it's interior carefully and lovingly curated. If you love history, uniqueness and a travel back in time, then please stay at the House of 1833. Don't expect perfection, expect an experience.
