This historic hotel that has been converted from a palace is set in its own grounds consisting of 20 or so acres and is an absolute oasis from the hugely busy city of Dholpur. It is a fascinating historic property and rooms are quirky albeit we got the impression (as several of our party’s rooms were cold and with a damp feel) that they had not been occupied much of late. The restaurant and bar are impressive settings and decor albeit the food offerings at dinner and breakfast whilst being perfectly adequate were not overly adventurous.

The location is undeniably beautiful, and the property itself is stunning. The opulence, lush green gardens, and serene surroundings make it an excellent spot for bird watching and relaxation. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell far short of expectations. The rooms frequently ran out of water during showers, and the hot water supply was inconsistent. Basic amenities were lacking—tea bags were not properly covered, and the quality of coffee was poor. Service was particularly disappointing, especially considering there was only one other family staying at the property. Meals were served without warmth or hospitality. On one occasion, my soup bowl was removed while I was still eating, without any courtesy of asking. Food portions were small and served as though the kitchen was short of supplies. Requests for repeat servings were fulfilled only at the very end of the meal, which felt unwelcoming. Most concerning was our perception of discriminatory behavior. The staff appeared far more attentive and accommodating toward the white guests, while being noticeably less considerate toward us as Indian guests. This left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. While the property has immense potential, significant improvements in service quality, hospitality training, and sensitivity toward guests are essential for it to truly live up to its promise

We selected dholpur raj niwas since gwalior Palace was sold out. Good fate... we loved the place. We got a lovely presidential Suite ...nice spacious rooms, living area abs nice big bathrooms. A lovely sit out with a water body .bliss. Food cooked by chef somvir amazing, such g8 tasting Indian food, an avid non vegetarian the veg trumped the non veg so brilliantly that one day I only ate veg food. I'm in shock Sprawling property, green and the Suite side has a wild feel. Slightly unkempt it's not possible for such a huge place to be pristine. Lets talk about the best thing on the property the staff.... a delight. I hope I remember all names (doubt it) The chef somvir Restaurant staff damodar, Vikas Property managers Anoop (a delightful amd upright young boy) and the star.... harendre (Mr. Jeeves) everything is doable and with a smile. If I could steal him I would. Next spa masseure riddhi...spa may not be your 5 star but she is g8. All in all we had a g8 time and we will be back.

The Raj Niwas Palace, Dholpur, is truly beautiful as a property. Dholpur is a very offbeat tourist destination but it is loaded with attractions, with my favourite being the National Chambal Sanctuary. We did love staying at the palace, which had a rich history and gorgeous architecture and gardens. The food was also great. However, we did have one unpleasant experience. We had booked both the private Chambal river safari by boat and the ravine safari by jeep for the two of us. The boat safari went extremely well, and we enjoyed watching the gharials, crocodiles, Indian skimmers, and other wildlife of the Chambal River. However, while planning the jeep safari, one of the hotel staff mentioned that we can start on it at 4:30 pm and end by 6:00 pm. I had, fortunately, gone through the website of the Raj Niwas Palace prior to booking and it was clearly mentioned there that the jeep safari was for five hours and also the sightseeing destinations during the safari were mentioned. They were also charging quite heftily for the same. So, after we spoke about what we saw on the website, they agreed and mentioned that we could do half the jeep safari in the evening and the remaining the next morning. Next day, while checking out, we were charged twice for the two jeep safaris on the bill. Again, I luckily noticed it, and told them to change it to one as our safaris were divided between morning and evening. So, please be very careful while going on these sightseeing tours at Raj Niwas Palace to ensure you get what you paid for.

The Raj Niwas Palace is a calm and quiet place in the centre of the small town of Dhaulpur, Rajasthan. It is situated midway between Agra and Gwalior, at a comfortable 300km from Delhi. It is basically the erstwhile king's palace's compound, managed by their own staff. So dont expect all the luxuries and newness associated with resorts managed by professional hospitality chains. However it has its own quaint charm with a rustic feel. Our pool villa had its own pool (obviously) in the private courtyard. The size of the accomodation (room + courtyard + washroom) was really big. The room had a separate indoor sitting area too. Cleanliness was fine. The laws are pretty big for outdoor activities, with lots of trees and birds like peacocks. However, there arent many facilities here, they will provide you with basic sports equipment if you ask - cricket, football, baddy. The staff is excellent, tries to accomodate all your requests. The food was also very nice. Since there werent many guests at the resort, they asked us for the menu for each meal. They arrange a Chambal Ravine Jeep safari on additional payment basis, which was a lot of fun, especially if you are with family. Overall, it was a really decent and soothing experience.

Visited with our 5 mo baby for a weekend getaway. A lovely property with birds chirping and squirrels dancing all across the property. One will leave the place feeling calm and zen like. Homemade food served warm by very well trained and polite staff. We were received by Harendra sharma who was very wonderful throughout the stay. Their GM is one of the most amazing person I have ever met - 100% marks in hospitality.
