Dear Eline-Niels A great thank you for taking the time to write a review after your recent stay at Protea Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa. We are happy to read that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet and our secure parking area. Our Hotel's style of hospitality reflects a vintage hospitality where our staff form the core of your experience. We look forward to welcoming you back! Kind Regards
It is a hotel with mixed heritage and is rather rambling property. There seem to be rooms in heritage building but also in newer buildings. It is a bit of a rabbit warren, rooms spread all over the place. We arrived late in the evening after a long flight into Cape Town and then driving to Stellenbosch. The main entrance is difficult to find as it is on a side street and the name of the hotel is rather difficult to find. On-site Parking is quite limited. We were verbally recognised as gold Marriott member but no benefits were offered. We were allocated a room on the 1st floor but there were no lifts and heavy suitcases had to be lugged manually, very difficult and tiring. The room itself was not what we expected so we rang reception and they said to check in the morning and an upgrade may be possible. We then had a different person at reception in the morning and as usual the standard response was, “sorry, we are fully booked”. When we explained again that we were reassured about an upgraded room did the receptionist consulted with her manager and we were given a proper loft room with a separate living area in addition to the loft bedroom. The breakfast room is quite nice with nice original plaster ceiling. Buffet breakfast is ok with egg station if you want. The hotel is close to many restaurants on the Main Street of Stellenbosch as well as the historic buildings, some dated from 18th century. I would label it as a 3 rather than 4 star hotel.

Dear EAA1947 Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Protea Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa. Being one of Stellenbosch's historic landmarks, with the main building built in 1912 as a guesthouse, Dorpshuis is steeped in rich history and here both the building and the furniture tells the story of nearly a century of providing fantastic hospitality to local and international visitors. Our property offers both historic and modern elegance. Guest enjoys the spacious rooms with large public space which demonstrate a country style hotel. Even if the hotel is fully booked you will not notice this. We are happy that we could offer a complimentary upgrade on the second day as the hotel was fully booked during your stay. As a 30-bedroom hotel it is not always possible to offer a free upgrade as this is subject to availability. Once again thank you for your review we hope to welcome you back if your travel brings you back to Stellenbosch. Kind Regards Gerty Munro General Manager

I would not pay for this accommodation. Toilet seat broken - unhygienic and should be replaced immediately No shampoo Electrical point - cover hanging loose - unsafe No shower - hand-held shower but no where to attach to the wall This is a disgrace to the Protea name

Dear 92shirleep Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback. Wow this is very, very disappointed - Protea Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa is a very high demand hotel providing accommodation to national and international GUEST and this room you are referring to is in our historical building dated back to 1912 , however it should always be in a good and excellent condition for our GUEST. I am so sorry when you met with me yesterday regarding an upgrade you did not mention it to me as I could have address and sort this out immediately or alternatively assist you with moving you to our sister hotel as the hotel is fully booked. I have made sure the toilet seat has been changed - our new GUEST amenities is a 3 in one, this is in your room. We will look at the hand shower and also the plug is unbelievable and very noticeable when cleaning and checking the room but has been fixed. We will have a meeting today with all roll players that cleaned the room yesterday and checked the room. Kind Regards Gerty Munro General Manager I do apologies for the inconvenience, and you are welcome to meet with me on your return today!

The hotel has an old traditional feel to it. We stayed in room 12 for one night. It was large, and the bed was comfortable with nice bed linen. I had a very good sleep there. The bathroom was massive, with a lovely walk-in rain shower, but unfortunately it flooded each time we had a shower. As we arrived late, we decided to have dinner at the hotel. In hindsight, I wish we had walked into the centre of Stellenbosch instead. There are some great restaurants there, and the area felt very safe.

The hotel rooms are spacious and comfortable. I like small hotels and this was it for me, and felt homely. Good spread of breakfast. Nice size pool. Can you possibly consider making it a heated pool. It was summer, but it was still very cold, The good thing is that it’s partially covered by trees and this is great in summer, but doesn’t get enough sun to warm it up a bit. Food at the restaurant is fine, not much variety, but agin it could be inspired by the size of the hotel. Service could be better, on arrival they watched us from reception with suitcase, we had to ask for assistance, before they could move. It wasn’t a good first impression. Besides that, the experience was generally good.

Decent hotel, not your normal corporate type. Room was spacious and on the ground floor, clean and comfortable. Not a huge amount of choice with the food in the evening when compared to other hotels we had stayed in our our tour. Staff friendly. Nice little bar area for a drink pre evening meal.

Hotel booked as part of a trip of a lifetime through ROL. Hotel was nowhere near up to expectations given the cost of the holiday and implications that the trip was a top notch trip. I expected a standard such as Four Seasons but this was not at that level. The staff were very nice, helpful and lovely and the hotel is perfectly satisfactory and clean but not the standard for what we were led to believe to expect for our trip by ROL.

Dear utanportsmouth Thank you so much for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Protea Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa. The Gracious Protea Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa was build in 1912 , originally as a residence and later developed into a guest house adding 10 deluxe loft rooms in 2007 and 2 Loft Rooms in 2015 . We focus on providing true home comfort, home cooked meals and the hotel has an intimate ambience that is complemented by staff who revel in providing excellent service. The hotel is well located in the famous Dorp str, walking distance from the CBD and surrounded by Restaurants and Shops. This hotel offers a great location and County House atmosphere. GUESTS enjoy the privacy, space and tranquility therefore we are grateful for the high demand. utanportshouth I am sorry to read that our hotel was not what you were expecting. We could have assisted you with alternative accommodation or look at the room type booked. It is always pleasant if GUEST inform us about the challenges during their stay so we can offer assistance to make this a good and enjoyable experience. Once again thank you for your feedback!
