I was staying one night (Saturday night). I found staying at The George Hotel, a lovely experience, the staff were lovely and chatty. I parked in the hotels private free car park, details on web site were clear and easy to follow. After booking in (room 17), I was greeted to a beautiful, functional and VERY clean room. The room was an executive suite, so it had a kitchen, two TV's, bathroom, lounge room and much more. The view from the room, made me feel I was back in the 1800s. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe. The corridor has a locked door, only people staying have the key to access it. The atmospher of the place was quiet and good. The George Hotel is walking distance from the Art Gallery, bars and cafes. I decided to have breakfast downstairs. Staff were lovely and food was excellent. I would certainly stay at The George Hotel again. Great location, however if you don't like music from near by bars, then it may not be for you. Sound is expected if your in the central Ballarat. There is access to the balcony, and if you like you can have a drink out there and enjoy the world going by. The hotel could be used by someone in a wheel chair. A wheel chair could travel from the car park to the hotel, there is only one step for a wheel chair to get over if one wants to go on the balcony. Yes there is a lift.

I really wanted to like The George. I’m out a lot and usually have nothing but good things to say about our local spots, but this place just isn't hitting the mark. I’ve tried it a few times now, but the vibe is always a bit "down" and the service is lacking. Most recently, my daughter and I waited at the bar while three staff members worked right in front of us. Not one person said "hello" or "be with you in a second." We ended up walking out without a drink. It’s a shame, because I’d love to support them, but I’ll be sticking to my usual favorites from now on. There are so many more venues that leave The George in their dust. So take it from a local and don't go here, unless you like being disappointed.

Convenient for our purpose, clean and quiet considering we had night clubs going all around us

Nice place and great location for us. Only issue was we had only a warm shower on two days of our stay. Would stay again.

I stayed there two nights and had three meals in the hotel. The staff friendly and welcoming; the stay was perfect. Clean, comfortable, quiet -- all that one asks for in a hotel. The breakfast was fantastic. I had the scrambled eggs on sourdough toast with bacon. Huge and delicious. I was there on Wednesday for 'Parm' night (it is Australia after all). Lovely meal. The scones are to die for as is the homemade strawberry jam -- make sure you buy a jar before you leave.
