I completely understand if you prefer to tip the staff directly, however please note it is standard practice for five star hotels in central London to add a discretionary service charge to the bill, and as you mentioned, it is completely up to you if you would like to pay it or not. Some of our guests do ask for it to be removed, as they already tipped the staff directly. It is completely discretionary.
