Darwin is a great host. He and his mom cooked us a great dinner and were very nice.

We had a very disappointing experience here and wouldn’t recommend it. The location is extremely remote, with difficult access to transport. There’s no power, electricity, or internet for hours on end, and the freezing conditions are only mitigated by a smoky fire. Early mornings are disrupted by yapping dogs and crowing cockerels. To top it off, the owner does not speak English, making communication very challenging. It’s 6km to get to the start of Cotopaxi’s north gate. The hiking trips he has are all to be paid for with a guide. The bedding felt unwashed. Unless you have your own transport avoid.

The hostel is in a beautiful arae, far in the mountains, small farms all around. The family who runs the hostel is very helpful in giving advices about cotopaxi national park, and about more beautiful trails in the area, and helped me with transportation. It was very cold and windy at night, but there was fireplace in the room and many blankets. The great bonus of the place is the food. Darvin, the sun of the family is a chef , and the local meals he coocked for diner were excelent.

The place is super nice and a good starting point for hiking. The people were super friendly and very welcoming, absolutely lovely! The room was very basic, the bed was small but comfy. It was extremely cold at night and there was no hot water to shower or a heat source for the night. There were enough blankets, but since we hiked into a hail storm we were wet and cold and couldn’t really warm up… warm water would be expected, even in a basic room like this.
The restaurant is an absolute gem though. We had dinner there and it was amazing! Truly just delicious and special, you can taste the love they put in the dishes.
Transport from Machachi is available, Juan picked us up and drive over the very cobbly road. Communication was not super easy, we waited for 30 minutes before he found us, even though we sent our location… but the ride was very nice.
For the next time we would probably go somewhere with warm water, but for dinner we absolutely recommend this place.

Beautiful Mountain Stay
Set in a beautiful area, and run with exception service. Loved the time I spent there. The food was amazing, hospitality was spot on! I couldn't recommend this place more! Close to the Cotopaxi entrance as well.
