Visited here for a drink after dinner in the Indian restaurant in Hawes. It was still early (@9pm) but pub was very quiet and the server behind the bar looked frustrated by the time we took deciding what to drink - drumming fingers on the bar! It felt very unwelcoming! They were also putting bar stools up on tables whilst we were there (a Friday night!). We finished our drinks and went to another pub!

Spotlessly clean room, staff very friendly and willing to help - recognised I need to use 2 sticks & immediately helped me with luggage. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast next door at Cocketts. Good banter at bar with landlord first evening. Slight downsides - old furniture, poorly fitting drawers, no wardrobe (though I didn't need one)

We stopped at this pub on a walking holiday for one night (27-28 March 2025). Having walked 12 miles that day, we looked forward to a cosy room and a good pub dinner. However, the place was a tip when we arrived, the bar and restaurant were in complete disarray, and there was no staff to tell us what was happening. We found a piece of paper and a key with our names on a table and presumed they were expecting us. The room was kind of ready, no chair or kettle, but the beds appeared to be made. One duvet was marked, the lights over the wash basin in the room were not working, and the bin in the toilet was caked in vomit (see photos), but the bathroom appeared to be clean otherwise. We had no transport or energy to look for another hotel or B&B. Besides, Hawes is quite a small place. Eventually, a handyman informed us that he was supposed to have the place ready by the next day (which would be short of a miracle, see photos). He organised a kettle for our room and changed the bathroom bin. We were told we would have breakfast in the hotel next door, as this and the two properties on either side were all managed by OYO. I have been trying to get OYO to address the issues we had since I returned from that holiday, giving a full account of what we found and providing the photos, but they don't want to know. Customer Support is a farce; they just string you along and seem to have no power to make a decision. Stay away from OYO hotels!

I would stay here again anytime I am in the area. We arrived after check in shut, not realising the closing time and called them. Jess came out to help us and get our keys, and the level of hospitality was amazing. She made sure we were all settled and helped us with anything we needed, even inviting us into the pub for a drink while we waited for the keys. We were so exhausted from a day of walking and the kindness and hospitality was exactly what we needed at that time. In addition, the rooms were very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend this place!

It says it’s a pub, but the pub was closed off and had to wait for someone to come and let me in.
Couldn’t have a shower as it looked like there was a hole in the bath.

Go carefull when considering staying here. The description is inaccurate. The rooms are not too bad, but the pub is not always open and very scruffy. We only had 1 pint here and preferred to drink in other pubs down the road. The Fountain is much better. The breakfast is ok, but served next door at the b&b. We were not told this when checking in, so nearly left to find breakfast elsewhere until another guest helped us. If you are looking for a cheap place to sleep while walking in the dales and happy to eat and drink elsewhere then it’s ok ish. But at present the high tripadvisor rating is not accurate in my opinion.

Stopped for a couple of pints, the glasses were dirty and the outside tables were also very unclean, with peeling paint and bird dirt on them. On leaving went to the toilet the inside of the pub was worse, filthy carpet and very unkempt, never again
