Our family of 5 recently stayed at the Orangutan Bungalow after our jungle trek. I’m so happy that we made the decision to come and stay here. The staff were very friendly, the gardens are beautifully maintained, the food was delicious and the room was better than we could have hoped for - beautiful building and very clean and comfortable. The best part about this place is that it’s perched right on the edge of the jungle. You can hear the wildlife from your rooms - we even saw orangutan’s in the trees right outside our door! If you’ve already enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the main area of Bukit Lawang, then come stay here also and enjoy the peace and quiet and wildlife.

Ideal place to stay if you want to do several days trekking in the National Park as it is just outside the entrance to the reserve. The village of Bukit Lawang is by the river and there are lots of places to stay there, but you need to hike up the equivalence of 20 flights of stairs at the beginning of the day. There are 4 bungalows and a family house with 3 bedrooms and they are building a 5 th bungalow. There is wildlife all around, including orangutans and monkeys. The family running it are so helpful. The food in the restaurant very good and they will do your laundry every day ( essential in the steamy jungle). The bungalows are basic but comfortable; fans and showers. They can arrange reputable trusted guides to meet you there each morning, ( important as there are several guides from the village illegally feeding the orangutans to encourage them to come closer; there is no need for this as with patience you will see them very closely without the potential harm that this feeding can cause).
