Room was great, staff was amazing! Food was great, definitely recommend it for anyone. Beach was one of the bests beaches I’ve ever been on, plenty of seats in the shade

I stayed at this hotel earlier this month due to the reviews and it was underwhelming compared to what the reviews say.

Beautiful property, the grounds is beautiful, but it wasn’t the cleanest in the halls walking to the hotel rooms especially compared to other places I’ve stayed while visiting Mexico. Lobby furniture smells. Watched trash and dishes sit in the same spot outside of room doors for 2 days before it was cleaned up. It definitely needs updating. There was construction going on in front of the hotel. We had to be moved from one room to another due to cleanliness issues, the tables and counters still had dirt and smudges from the previous guest.

The TV was in Spanish for our entire stay, and there was no way to change it. The buffet closed at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Had to make reservations for other restaurants. The pool was probably the best part of this hotel, but the pools close at 8. The drinks were watered down. No room service. The food choices weren’t that great. The beach seemed man made and very hard.

The workers spoke minimal English, which wasn’t a problem because I used a translator, but they didn’t seem very approachable or friendly. The hotel had buses to take you to other Barcelo properties nearby and the mall, or you could walk. The arcade was okay, and I enjoyed the escape room.

Make sure to bring cash, every ATM was out of order, and I wanted to tip. Overall, I feel like this hotel gave the bare minimum. I would not stay here again.

We have stayed here may years in the past and it seems the Riviera is starting to go down in quality a little. The jets in the hot tub didn't work, we didn't try to use it until a couple days before we left, so no big deal, but still was annoying. We tried to get reservations at the French restaurant at the Palace and we were told that they did have any reservations during our stay, we stayed 5 nights, conveniently the next reservation they had was the day after we were leaving. The exact same thing happened to us last year when trying to book a reservation there. There were no washcloths in the room when we checked in, so I asked a housekeeper I just happened to see if I could get some for the room. The room and the building were both showing signs of wear. We paid for an oceanfront room and I know that doesn't guarantee a view but was still a little disappointed when we ended up on the second floor which basically gave us a view of the back of the pool buildings.

The food selection and quality is still excellent. The pools are clean and the grounds are kept up very well. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The staff is very nice. So overall not a bad stay, just that we have had so many better ones in the past.

We stayed at barcelo Maya Riviera adults only in early November and had a great time. We loved the buffet and Agave restaurant specifically (we are not fussy with food, we thought everything was great, I had tacos every day!). The beach area is awesome to snorkel and observe coral life, we saw so many types of fish, stingrays, and even a sea turtle. I highly recommend bringing water shoes and a snorkel unless you are ok getting it from the gift shop! We also walked through the grounds and enjoyed playa Mexicana to buy some souvenirs. Staff is great and the hotel is well maintained, pool's clean and room's awesome. We only had 1 day of rain!
