We originally found this place and were quoted a very large price for a room and DB&B. I then found a deal which meant we got it almost half price (still expensive!). So we went for an anniversary treat. It’s by no means terrible but also no where near as ‘swish’ as it looks on the website. Rooms are dated and old fashioned - most beds are doubles (not king) and we had an ‘executive suite’ as part of the deal. The bed had a large wooden frame and was VERY hard. It was also incredibly high (I am 5’10” and struggled to get in it). The service was lovely - a great experience there; but the food was very average at dinner (and very expensive so the £35 allocation per person didn’t cover 2 courses). Starters and desserts were particularly disappointing. And choice was limited too. So my advice is, if you don’t mind old fashioned, give it a go - but definitely don’t pay full price.

Our traditional Bridal Suite that you stayed in is one of many executive suites, some are more modern in decor than others. We have many reviews from people who really love this room, but we hear your feedback and are sorry it wasn't quite right for you. We have increased the allocation for a dinner, bed and breakfast stay when you book direct (now £40 per person). You may have booked on a deal through a third party (which sometimes provide a different dinner allocation). As the cost of food supplies has increased we always try and increase the allocation accordingly for those booking direct with us. And, as we swallow many of the utility, staffing and food price hikes ourselves, we strive to remain as competitive as we can be to ensure guests continue to get value for money.

This was our third stay at Holdsworth House in the past year and we really like this hotel. The service is traditional, professional and friendly. Dinner in the oak panelled Jacobean dining room with open fire is a particular highlight and the food certainly lives up to the surroundings. Breakfast is also excellent. Each time we’ve stayed we’ve booked an executive suite which provides plenty of space and a nice bathroom. This time we found an excellent circular local walk at Ogden Water. Highly recommended and we look forward to getting the next stay booked!

This is the best hotel in England in my opinion. It’s just fabulous. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble . The beds are so comfortable and the rooms are impeccably clean . The food is delicious and restaurant/bar staff are lovely . The hotel is stunning and I think it’s just perfect. Tracey front of house is wonderful and will help you with anything you need . Michaela on reception is just amazing and will help with anything questions you may have . If you ever think about staying at this hotel you won’t regret it . It’s just wonderful in every way

We booked this hotel for our daughter’s wedding, we stayed for 2 nights and I cannot rate it highly enough. The hotel is superb and staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and the wedding was fabulous down to excellent planning and facilities.
