The hostel was tidy, quaint, quiet and pretty much what this expect from a £60 per night youth hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The ablutions were tired but the showered were hot and ok. The beds were very comfortable and clean. We didn’t eat there but heard that the breakfast and food options were good. The hostel itself was perfectly located for people wishing quick and easy access to Buttermere and the many walking routes surrounding it. I’d definitely stay here again. Local pubs were lovely with lovely food being served and decent beers on tap.

Love Buttermere YHA. Third or fourth stay. I was lucky to be here out of peak season and mid week this time so it wasn’t too busy. Location is great. I stayed in the shared dorm and met some lovely people. The WiFi network change is a massive improvement - I assume it’s the same across the hostels. I know I’m here to be in nature, but I need the digital maps and apps to plan my routes and I could do it from my bed! Winning!!

Excellent location on the outskirts of Buttermere. It is limited parking so worth trying to arrive in daylight to get a space - great that you can leave the car there during the day. Staff are very friendly. Our room was spacious and incredibly warm. It’s an old hostel and some areas could do with a deep clean like window frames and sink grouting, but it didn’t stop our enjoyment and at the price point paid, we weren’t overly bothered. We had a meal on the first evening- the YHA menu isn’t gourmet but it’s well priced and not bad at all. We made our own breakfast in the well equipped kitchen the following morning, although the cooked breakfast looked popular. We had a great stay and there’s a nice friendly vibe about the place,

Great location of this YHA hostel is the only reaolson i would consider staying in it again. The whole place is in a poor state of maintenance. Showers are covered in black mould and alot of it which is a serious health hazard. Silicone in toilets is yellow, dirty. Room's floor is entirely covered in carpet without even a small area of solid wooden panels so it is a no surprise that carpets are dirty due to the shoes of all the people that ever stay in there. Table tops of some tables in the dining area are peeling off posing a serious risk of cross contamination with the food, which could be a problem with the kids dining, and all it takes is a bit of distraction for the parents to miss a moment when kids would pick dropped food on the table with some of the table itself. That is all basic common sense. On the good note though, staff was polite in all areas, especially at the reception. The difference between the state of repair and overal cleanliness between this YHA and one in Keswick is significant, with the YHA in Keswick being of way higher standards. Shame as location and historical significance of this place has an amazing value and potential.

This is a beautiful, well-run hostel in an exquisite location with easy access to the lake and fells. Simple clean rooms, tasty breakfast and friendly staff is a winning combination. Everything a youth hostel should be.

We had a wonderful stay at the YHA. It's in the ideal location for exploring the many treasures of Buttermere. I particularly enjoyed staying in the landpods, nestled amongst the nature. The rooks nesting above us were a welcome addition, lulling us into the mornings with their dulcet and mellifluous tones. Anyone who had a bad experience with these feathered friends probably watched Alfred Hitchcock's "the birds" at a very young age.

Wonderful solo stay at YHA Buttermere. Perfect location just a stones throw from the main hotel and cafe which is nice. Friendly staff and guests, good facilities. Wifi poor but why do you need it when staying here! Will definitely come back
