We had a very special occasion in this hotel which holds a lot of memories, my parents celebrated their 60th anniversary only 2 weeks ago, and they also held their wedding there all them years ago,we had a fantastic meal in the newly refurbished emmet room restaurant, served to us by wonderful staff , everything was perfect and we really enjoyed the night,

We recently visited Doolys Hotel and were very disappointed with how much it has changed. With the new management and staff, the atmosphere no longer feels warm or welcoming, and the service felt inexperienced and unfriendly. The receptionist on arrival was rude, and our waiter made us feel uncomfortable throughout the meal. We also noticed that management did not help or elevate service on the floor, instead spending time chatting with staff while customers appeared to be overlooked, which is very unlike the Doolys we previously knew. The prices are extremely high for the quality — €27 for a steak sandwich and €22 for a chicken burger, which arrived dry and burnt. The lobby toilets were also in poor condition, with overflowing bins and heavily soiled sinks. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and we won’t be returning. We hope this feedback is taken on board by the new management.

I stayed with my son on Thursday 20 November 2025. The purpose was to attend a book launch by John Feehan (The Silver River of Slieve Bloom), On arrival we met with Marissa who was informative, knowledgeable and very welcoming. The hotel was beautiful, full of charm and character, evening meal and breakfast were delicious. The book launch was a beautiful event, very special. Overall we had a lovely experience of Birr thanks to Marissa and the staff of Dooly's Hotel, and also to Offaly County Council and the Heritage Council who hosted the launch in Kilcormac. A visit to Birr Castle was also something to remember and chrrish. I'm hoping to go back soon. Brigid Birney

I came in today and was served by a lovely lad killian was always on the ball our glasses were always full and he was friendly. I think he deserves a raise

Go on our Killian! He was as sweet as sugar and very helpful — he never let our glasses go empty. He was enthusiastic, kind, and a hardworking young lad. His service was amazing!

Fab Hotel. Rooms were spotless and the bed was really comfortable. Food lovely we are there on one night of our stay. Staff in all areas very friendly. Will return

We had a lovely meal I won on Facebook and the food was fabulous the staff were excellent the detail to the food was brilliant kevin looked after or every need I would recommend dooleys for dinner we will definitely be back and thanks again for the prize keep up the good work staff are a credit to ye kind regards Leonard grainger

Stopped for food at Dooleys after a family day out .. prompt service and very friendly and helpful staff from Guy at reception , didn’t get his name but went to college in Athlone to the waiting staff in bar/reception .. served by a lady we were told has worked there 38 years .. food was great , if may have been our first visit but qing be our last

Little to no wheelchair access for the elderly or the infirm - on a recent visit to Birr with our friends, we could not stay the night as was our original provisional plan due to inadequate access from the bar area to the main lobby. Luckily we have friends in the area who accommodated us for the night. Do better!
