Wow. This was such a nice place to stay. Very rustic. Huge breakfast with actual glass plates. And real cutlery. They have a great coffe/tea bar. Nice pool. Definitely worth the stay. .

The rooms have been updated. Unfortunately the room we stayed in had a window that went no where, it was boarded up from the outside. So we had no natural light at all coming in. There was only 1 overhead light, a light on the desk and one in the bathroom. The pictures showed 2 beside the bed but we did not have them.
The floor was a bit sticky in spots, as the glue was coming thru the cracks in the floor. The bathroom had paint in the trim. This room was not ready to rent out yet. I really wanted a hot tub after a long trip, unfortunately it was not in service and it was one of the reasons I chose this hotel.
Otherwise the hotel was beautiful, quiet and the breakfast was decent.

Not enough staff. Had to wait at front desk for 10 minutes for someone to show up and check me in. The shower didn’t drain so when I called to have it fixed the same person showed up to check on it and nobody fixed it.

The desk clerk went out of his way to make sure we got a room. We were very tired and had only cash and no credit card. He explained that we could use our debit card to reserve online. Im not very good at doing things like that so he took my phone and did it for me. Extremely helpful.

Liked the rustic finish of the facility. Staff is very friendly. It was an absolute maze getting from the lobby to the room.

This property is okay. Nothing great about it and nothing terribly wrong with it. It’s fine for a short stay though, as I now know, there are better options available in Fort Frances.
What I do have a big issue with is the price gouging that they apparently practice. Our stay was for 2 nights, a Monday and Tuesday so not a weekend and not a holiday but the pricing was $189 for Monday night and $299 for Tuesday night. An increase of $110 or 58% overnight! I missed this when I made the booking so my bad there, but if this isn’t price gouging I don’t know what is. I understand the concept of yield management but this is nothing short of taking extreme advantage of the customer.
My point is, if you are booking this property be very aware of this.

The bathroom door handle was broken and the barn door itself couldn't be pulled closed. And the bathroom was a very tight fit for my 6'7" husband.
Breakfast was the worst I have experienced at a Choice Hotel. I understand this hotel is only 13 days old as a Choice Hotel, but . . . The layout was terrible; no one could figure out where to place dirty dishes - the sign was covered up by a stack of dirty plates (a STACK at 6:10?) The food was room temperature. There were no napkins to be found - I went back to the kitchen to get those. Most people were throwing their food in the trash.
