Wholeheartedly recommended, without reservation. Everything at Taru Villas 906 in Hikkaduwa was excellent: food, service, accommodation, location. Step out of the back gate and you are right on the beach with the golden sand between your toes. It is situated a short tuktuk ride from the main part of Hikkaduwa, where you can snorkel and paddle with turtles, and see the baby sharks on the reef. Quite a few activities are possible, and we did the following: snorkelling, seeing the turtles and baby sharks at Turtle Beach, boat trip on the lagoon and Madu River (which included seeing how cinnamon is produced, visiting a Buddhist monk on an island and having our feet nibbled by fish), visit to the turtle rescue centre and hatchery (which included releasing baby turtles into the sea). A visit to the tsunami memorial is a must. It was so moving. I recently mentioned it to a colleague and had to pause to get myself under control because the emotions came back to me - more than three weeks after our visit. Many thanks to the staff at Taru Villas 906 for looking after us so well during our stay there in early July 2025. Altogether we had a very memorable stay. The food and drink were really excellent, and we had many memorable meals, the most notable one being the Sri Lankan feast, and the barbecue on our last evening there was very special. Special thanks must go to Rohan for the excellence of the service. Especially as he came back from his home 30 minutes away in the middle of the night to whisk me to the local hospital, due to a bite/scratch on my leg which had become infected. I will be eternally grateful for this.
