The Hand is at a crossroads at the head of the Ceiriog valley which climbs steadily from Chirk up to Llanarmon before the two through roads sweep steeply up to the hills of the Berwyn range. We have driven, cycled, and walked there from all the possible directions including the track that goes over by the ‘Memorial’ which is fairly rough on a bike! The welcome at the Hand is always smiley and positive. The food is cut above the average pub grub, but all the classics are available as well. Whatever you go for you get what we call “farmers portions”! We have just been for lunch an a Monday ( not many decent places to get a lunch on a Monday) in early February on a miserable grey day, and had a warm welcome with fires in the bar and the reception. It was very quiet, but they were not out of sorts and served up a great meal with good , timely service ( not interfering when we were having a good chat). Top notch sauce with the fish course and wonderful baby samphire. Not used to lunch these days a pud to follow was a bridge too far for us. This place is properly open. They are away for a couple of days this week and next, but otherwise it’s always there for you. It’s worth a visit as each season changes as the valley is exquisite as the colours change through the year, and if you’ve ridden over a swift pint of caffe before heading downhill is always excellent. Thank you the most excellent Hand!

We're local to the Hand and come up the valley when we can to eat, drink, and enjoy the Hand. The food here has always been great, plenty of choice for beers on tap and the staff are really friendly, in other words, the perfect countryside pub! We had lunch today and it made for a lovely end to the week, the lamb was mouth wateringly good :)

Had a lovely afternoon, service was excellent, drinks were good, staff friendly and food was ok. Food started off brilliant until we noticed mould on sourdough served with the soup. When we approached staff about this they took food into kitchen. After chef “examined” the bread, we were informed that “ this is how sourdough is and it’s the seeds on the bread.” We could see the seeds clearly, but the mould was equally as visible. However, the soup was lovely, just be wary of the bread

Attended this lovely hotel in a wonderful rural setting for a long awaited catch up lunch with friends! The Pub was warm and welcoming as was the reception from the delightful staff! A good range of beers and wine. The new menu contained multiple choices of food with something for everyone and did not disappoint! We will certainly return and maybe for an overnight as the rooms look very inviting! Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at the Hand last Saturday night. The staff were exceptional, so friendly, helpful, and professional. The food was amazing, freshly prepared tasty and nicely presented. Our room was comfortable. This place is an absolute gem, we are looking forward to visiting again soon.

I visit with my family regularly, but service this time was at its best. A must try…the valley is a well kept secret and this is the jewel.
