We had a booking for 5:00pm and were told that the table would need to be returned by 6:30pm.Which was absolutely fine with us. However, from the moment we arrived, it was clear we were not welcome. We arrived slightly early at 4:57pm, and some of our group were immediately questioned about where the others were. When the rest of our party arrived just a few minutes later at 5:02pm, we were abruptly informed that we wouldn’t be served at all. No explanation, just a blunt refusal. What made it worse was the attitude. The staff, particularly the women working there, were incredibly rude and came across as aggressive. We felt spoken down to, dismissed and, quite frankly, ostracised. It felt as though simply not being locals meant we weren’t worthy of being treated with basic courtesy. We had travelled all the way from Manchester to Wales and had nowhere else to go. Instead of hospitality, we were met with hostility. The whole experience left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable and treated unfairly. A pub should feel warm and inviting this one made us feel the complete opposite.

I was genuinely shocked by the condition of Room 4. The room was in a poor state — dirty, damp, and clearly not maintained. The electrics were questionable, with exposed fittings and no evidence of any recent PAT testing. The roof also leaked when it rained,we had to move the bed and place a bin with a towel carch the water which is completely unacceptable. For a paying customer,£80 a night this experience felt totally disrespectful. Basic standards of cleanliness, safety, and upkeep were simply not met. With no point of contact to discuss our issue. Very disappointing.

Small but perfectly ideal for a base
Lovely little place. Small but more than adequate room for a base in mid wales. Hotel owns the cafe which do a fantastic breakfast starting at 8am.

We needed a place to stop for just one night and the Crown Inn was functional and convenient. We had Room 2 in the courtyard annex. Straightforward and friendly check-in, a small and clean double room (ensuite, but no soap or shower gel, take your own!), comfortable and warm bed, tea/coffee making facilities and a TV. The only problem wasn't of the Crown's doing: it was the pub-pretending-to-be-a-nightclub opposite (it was Saturday night). The street noise itself wasn't too bad, but the thump of the music was two notches too high on the thumpometer. When you can feel the vibrations in the pub across the road, you have to wonder what the locals make of it each week. Perfectly quiet location when the nightclub finally closed. Only 3 stars as a result; wouldn't stay here again over a weekend, but other times probably a great option.

We've just had the most delicious Sunday Roast dinner. I had beef and my partner had the belly pork together with all the vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. We followed up with roulade/cheesecake. The service was superb, atmosphere was warm and friendly and we are definitely looking forward to visiting again.

The room was cold, carpet is worn out, mold on the ceiling of bathroom.
Right next to main road through the town, another 2 pubs opposite, so noisy at closing time, then noisy when people were leaving at 5:30 & 6:30 am

Could be better
In need of decorating or a spruce up. There was mold on the walls and ceiling. Wouldn't take much to make it a really nice room to stay in.

Really lovely Inn full of character. Lovely staff and easy check in. Room was clean, comfortable and lots of character. Right in the middle of Rhayader so a nice walk in the evening. Would stay again and recommend 😃
