Came here for a valentine's meal, and while the food was exceptional, the service was abysmal. It was busy when we arrived but there were still tables yet to arrive. Already we could see plenty of staff about. We were seated and given drinks menus quickly, but it took 10 mins to take the drinks order, and then a further 30 mins (so 40 mins in total) to take out food order. Other tables who came in after us ordered before us, and there seemed no logical reason why it took so long. We both ordered two drinks each (4 in total) and two arrived promptly, then the third arrived 15 mins later, and the 4th drink took 30 mins to arrive. The food was insanely good - absolutely exceptional. We both had 3 courses and were fit to burst afterwards. Couldn't fault it at all - very well presented, absolutely delicious, and generous portions. Overall superb value for money. When we finished our desserts, I was keen to settle the bill and leave as my husband had an early start at work. However, all of the staff seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. After waiting for over half an hour. I went to the bar and paid direct ly. By now, the restaurant was pretty much empty, and I only saw 2 staff about. I would like to return for the food, but not sure I want to put up with the poor service.

Visited today and had the Christmas meal. Lovely and peaceful, as hardly anyone there. Made a nice break from the useless Christmas noise. Food was very good especially the brie starter and the treacle tart dessert was delicious. Excellent service, would recommend.

Came here for our works Christmas do. Honestly, what a hidden gem. The staff are the highlight to me, bright, friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The room was lovely, and I would have loved to take the mattress home with me! We struggle to find a venue that can accommodate all of us, so this is a real find. There were about a hundred of us, and they coped really well with us. A waitress even came over and had a very brief dance in between clearing tables!

Had a lovely relaxing wkend break here. The room was cosy ,the food delicious and the staff very accommodating. Plenty of interesting places near by to visit ,Lyme Regis and Charmouth to name but two. Would definitely recommend this Hotel.

Such an old fashioned tired place this is. Every part of it needs updating. We went for a funeral but never stayed the night as we had a family emergency. We just used the room to change our clothes as we travelled from London. We paid £104 for the night. Way to expensive.... we did ask for a small part refund {due to the fact we didnt stay the night} but they refused. In 3 words .... Tired, Old, Depressing

We’ve been coming here for many years and always enjoy it. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food has always been good and this time seemed better than ever: our favourite dishes included linguine with king prawns, steak pie (with the best gravy anywhere), a cauliflower steak and an antipasto platter - all simply outstanding. Breakfasts are equally good and my wife enjoyed the ham, cheese and tomato continental style plate which we hadn’t seen on previous visits - super tasty. I stayed with the traditional English breakfast composed of very high quality ingredients and cooked exactly as requested. Bar service is prompt and efficient and the young chap in charge clearly knows how to look after the real ale, with Butcombe on top form. Back next year 🎉

Lovely comfortable room. Great for pets too with towel and treats. Fantastic food in the evening and a good breakfast. Will definitely stay again when in the area

Enjoyed my stay
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was very clean. Hotel was a little dated/tired in areas and maybe could do with a refurb. Food was lovely in the restaurant and the breakfast included in the price we paid I feel was great value for money.
