I arrived at hotel got given room key and went to room . When got inside room it was really cold no heating . So I rang reception and he told me do I want a blanket I said no heating on and his reply was not sold many rooms so can't heat who building . He said he would turn it on 6.30 pm its now 7pm still no heating and no one answering at reception. I will not stay here again as the owners do not care about customer service and are penny pinching and leaving customers cold that are staying here . Shocking attitude and customer care . Do not stay here if you feel the cold I'd be warmer in my car . Stayed October 25th 2025 one night

In early September we spent a warm sunny Breakaways weekend at the Nelson Hotel, most guests having come by coach from Yorkshire. Our third floor sea-front room overlooked the big wheel and Britannia Pier. It was clean but could have done with a re-furb - there was no plug in the basin under a notice about saving water (no spare plug at Reception) and curtains that were too small. Unlike most South Coast resorts, there was free parking within yards of the front door, which was filled at the week end by 'day trippers' but emptied in the late afternoon. The food was satisfying but there was less choice than at other hotels in the Group we have used, mostly served by friendly hard-working staff. An excellent Saturday evening singer entertained us for over two hours in the lounge bar with songs from all eras and there was a guiet Library Room for others to use. An excellent stay in a resort bustling at the week end and which also gave us an opporunity to enjoy the Broads and nearby attractions.

Traveld to The Nelson Hotel on a coach trip, on arrival, we were told there was no porterage (should have been told this on booking) as there was steps up to reception so luggage, walkers and wheelchairs struggled up. Checked in very smoothly, our room wasn't too bad nice and clean a bit tired but these old buildings look dated, we had a very torn net curtain in the bath room that could have been replaced, only four coat hangers in wardrobe, meal times were a joke every one had to be in dining Room for 18.00 (2 coach fulls) we were served starters at the table, then had to queue to be served your main meal then pudding was served at the table, you pre order all your meals at breakfast, but if you are diabetic tell them when you book that's what we were told when asked for cheese and crackers, for afters was offered melon every evening, would not go back to this hotel, I must say this though the staff were friendly

The room we stayed in was very big. The window was held open with a door type bolt, which was dangerous as the window was so heavy it was impossible to hold and close. It banged shut due to the weight. It took two of us to reopen and fasten the bolt. The shower cubicle was interesting, the doors were missing and a shower curtain had been put in place over the corner, it didn’t close properly. The shower itself was just about adequate. Peeling wallpaper and mould in the windows spoiled the room , but we didn’t spend too much time in there. On the plus side…the room was very clean and the towels were huge and soft. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Just returned from the Nelson hotel with a 5 day trip with Caledonion travel. The hotel is dated. Not any different from most British seaside hotels now. The hotel is clean and tidy The room we stayed in had lots of space for clothes etc Tea / coffee facilities, refreshed daily Very comfortable bed Tv,which had very poor reception, unable to watch Very poor wifi , in the evening, but fine during the day . The bathroom was really the problem. Tiny, the shower itself was very small area, could not move in it. Also kept hitting toes off the shower base as it was so close to the toilet. Having said this it was clean, lots of fresh towels and hot water. The staff are the real stars of this hotel. I have stayed in many hotels and met lovely staff, but the staff here are the friendliest most helpful i have ever met. From the manageress to the barman and the girls in the restaurant, absolutely amazing. Thank you for a lovely stay

Please do not go to this hotel family stayed there in August worse holiday ever. First night the ceiling leaked in our room and ruined our possession through the poor state of the hotel we had to acquire new accommodations, ceiling was falling down in the bathroom of the second room they had offered. Management had no customer service skills and was rude, save your monies and go else where.

Just spent five days at this hotel on a coach holiday. The hotel is a old Victorian building but is past it's sell by date. On arrival on a coach holiday which was mainly pensioners with varying mobility problems. The first thing I found was there was no transfer of cases from the coach to your hotel room which I have had on many of the holidays before. This meant everyone had to struggle with their suitcases up a steep set of steps into the hotel reception. After been given room keys we then had to struggle to our room using a small lift which would only hold four people at a time with suitcases. My room was on the 3rd floor so using stairs was out of the question. On entering the room which was booked as a twin room. In fact the room was a small suite with two bedrooms. The first room contained a double bed so checking the next room this contained two fold up guest beds which were quite old. I found that the mattress on both beds to be old and thin and liying in the beds was like sleeping on a corrugated sheet. So I had very little sleep while there. The bathroom was large but old and dated but useable. In the rooms the wallpaper was peeling and the whole place needed a complete refurb and this I found was needed throughout the whole of the hotel. The hotel appears to be kept clean but couldn't hide the worn out appearance. The restaurant had a system all of it's own. Meals needed to be ordered in a morning for dinner, this meant starters, main meal and sweet. The starter and sweet was served to you at your table however the main meal was not. The restaurant was divided in to four zones and when called each group qued up like your collecting a school dinner served to you as you passed down the line. Some people who were unsteady on their feet made this system look a little dangerous, but I suppose saved on staffing. There was not many staff and they seemed to do everything. The food menu was very limited but was well cooked and hot so no complaints . There was a reasonable choice at breakfast. All the staff were very helpful, cheerful and efficient so no complaints. This is classed as a three star hotel but not sure how,it is more like a two star. The best I could say is it's cheap and cheerful. I don't think I will return and would prefer to pay more for a better experience.
