This is a wonderful hotel. The building is magnificent and worth a visit on its own - even if you’re not staying there. But, if you are, you’ll be greeted by a lovely father and daughter (José and Francisca) who can’t do enough to make your stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Added to this, the rooms are quirky but comfortable. We had dinner in the hotel one evening and it was delicious. We were fortunate that the weather was mild and we could sit outside and both the service (especially from Célia) and the combination of wines from their own vineyards made for a lovely experience. All of us are quite well travelled and have lived in 9 countries between us and all agreed that we had one of the most delightful experiences in any hotel. As an extra tip, ask to see the chapel. While the hotel is famous for its 19th Century wallpaper and stunning living rooms, it was the chapel that really blew us away. Guimarães is a beautiful city and, if you are lucky enough to be visiting, Casa de Sezim cannot be praised enough. I wish we had plans to return soon.

Nice rural location, nice welcome from hostes with estate wine, breakfast in the veranda was excellent with personalized choices. No air conditioning was an issue for us, windows helped but allowed for mosquitoes and insects to enter.
