Our stay was awful There was a security light constantly on which kept us awake from 4 am The double bed was hard, small with a very thin duvet- I had to sleep in warm clothes ax the room was not warm The bathroom was from the 1970s with a musty smell and unhygienic tiles We went to breakfast at 7am- no staff around and no one available on reception to complain to The full English breakfast was terrible- hard bacon with a metallic taste, microwaved scrambled eggs , no fresh bread and very uncomfortable seating We could not find a person to help us We want a refund for the second night which we did not occupy due to the terrible standard- we left the key at reception and was promised that a manager would contact us- no one has and we have not received a refund

Just be careful when attending an event at Hitchin Priory Hotel. I recently attended the fireworks display that was put on by a 3rd party company ,The festivals group uk. It was advertised as two displays, children's display at 6:30pm and adults display at 8:30pm. Alot of people asked via social media if there would be any difference between the two displays and Hitchin Priory confirmed after speaking to the 3rd party that there would be NO difference between the displays. 4x tickets were £41 and we arrived about 5:30 The children's display started at 18:35 and finished at 18:38. It was such an awful display. So many disappointed children. £41 for a 3 minute display! As we were all leaving, the next group were arriving for the adult display. It was so dangerous having us all leaving/arriving from the same gate.I have since tried to contact the festivals group uk but they have disabled their email address. Hitchin Priory hotel won't help either, even tho they have been paid also. They dont care for people's safety. They allowed a company to use their grounds that ripped people off! If you do attend an event please check all the details first because The Hitchin Priory Hotel wash their hands of anything once they are paid! Gemma

I feel compelled to leave a review about the experience I shared with my family on the 2nd November to celebrate my birthday. Firstly on entering the hotel at reception I found the place to be very underwhelming and that's really how I would describe our time for the whole of our experience there. After receiving our choices of different teas we were then left without our afternoon tea itself to eat with it for quite some time. Then it was down to poor David who wore lots of hats that afternoon from welcoming us, to taking our orders and serving us throughout our time there. The actual afternoon tea was very short on selection consisting of 4 finger sandwiches and the rest were a variety of cakes which didn't look very appealing. The brownie in particular was dry and difficult to eat. For what was on offer the cost was very expensive. I've had many an afternoon tea in my time but this was by far the worse one yet. Needless to say we won't be going back. Disappointed!

I made a late reservation while on the road and could not be too fussy. I was surprised that there was a room available. No17. At a fair price. Many corridors and staircases later and I was in the room. Spartan to say the least but functional enough. The beds were ancient, uncomfortable and pillows sponge. Thin duvet and heating did not work at all. Bad night’s rest for a traveling businessman on a cool night. On the positive side. On-premise parking. Great breakfast in a dining room with a view. Great service from the front desk. A nice bath in the bedroom. Great location walking distance from town. The hotel too has a rich history and an architectural gem. But at the end of the day, one stays at a hotel for a good night’s sleep. Invest in a good mattress and decent bedding please… even if the room is the ‘runt of the litter’.

We were charged £288 for a family room, it was shoddy, dated and the facilities were poor. The main entrance is pretty but our room was in a newer block and not worth the money.

Stayed here for 2 nights in the Abbott room. The hotel itself was a bit tired but I found the staff to be friendly and polite and would be the reason I use this hotel for future stays. My room was looked after and very spacious. I visit Hitchin monthly and found this hotel to be the best of the city centre hotels and very well priced.

Have stayed at The Hitchin Priory numerous times while working in England (for Boeing). The employees, staff and food is excellent. Can't say enough how good this place and the town is. The grounds are well kept and I can't say enough about the friendliness and helpfullness of the staff.

The access to the establishment is easy and the entrance is impressive. The group of people standing outside smoking in a parking area were (as it turned out) the staff! , so not the best welcome as one of them in an overcoat dashed in to see to me. Bereft of a good morning or a smile! It was no surprise that the staff, although present at this reception did little interact with guests and assert their willingness to help. For guests who had travelled far, there were no bar facilities in order to seek refreshment. For such a well placed establishment, full of potential , it’s strange that a basic hotelier strategy is not very apparent here.

This is a good 3 star hotel , we had a family room ( 3 friends ) it was comfortable, beds fine , towels and toiletries provided. Tea and coffee facilities so all good . Parking there . Bathroom in need of TLC but reflected in price . Location great , building impressive but could be so much better if money invested into it ! Breakfast chaotic , not busy in restaurant but disorganised, no one in charge , running out of most hot food , Juice, pasties , hot water - had to ask for everything. Staff nice enough but someone needs to take charge . Lots of improvements needed .
