At first glance, I thought this would be a nice hotel. The pictures of the rooms looked nice, and when we pulled up, the hotel was nice - just like in the pictures. The lobby seemed clean and there was a section where you could buy necessities like razors, sodas, etc. As we started walking towards our room (room 117), the hallway was reminiscent of the hallway in the movie "The Shining", it was creepy. In addition, the smell was awful. A combination of mold and ammonia (or urine), it was permeating through our nostrils. As we entered the room, the smell did not diminish. It was awful. The carpets were stained with dirt and bleach (though they were vacuumed - thank goodness for that). The bathroom, though clean, had mold in the creases and corners. The ceiling was peeling. The bedroom though looked clean, carpets were stained, room smelled of mold and urine, and there were cracks in the ceiling. We checked for bed bugs to be safe and did not see any - thank goodness. That would've been the last straw. The kitchen was clean and nice. The dishes in the kitchen needed to be re-washed, but that is to be expected. I always re-wash dishes in hotels before I used them. Though there were tiny little gnats flying around in the sink. But that didn't bother me so much. I wanted to ask for a refund and look for another hotel, but was exhausted, so stayed. We hid our belongings when we went out, because we did not feel safe. Oh, and the hotel staff, were outside smoking more than they were insider working. But, that doesn't impact our stay, so that is fine. This is why I would rate this hotel just a 2. For a quick overnight - just to sleep, it is sufficient, but needs a good cleanup, maintenance, new rugs, and spackle and paint. Thanks.

Mainstay Suites and Quality Inns should be ASHAMED to have this dump in their portfolio! We stayed at this location in 2022 and while it was not ideal, it was not the horrible filthy broken down flop house it is today. I’ll briefly summarize the nightmare that was the one night we spent in this wretched hotel. The room was filthy. The walls, counters, rugs everything. The toilet was not bolted to the floor and moved around when sat down on. The refrigerator had both rust and mold inside and would only maintain a temperature of 67 degrees. The pot and pan provided in the kitchen looked like they had been recovered from a dumpster. We were only given 2 spoons and a knife for utensils. The plates appeared to have been eaten off of and put back into the cabinet. The dining table chairs were so dirty we would not sit on them without towels placed over them. The air conditioner malfunctioned and by noon the temperature in the room was 84 degrees. We woke up to the entire hotel having no water. We couldn’t flush the toilet, take a shower or wash our hands. The water was not turned back on until almost 6pm. It was literally one thing after another. Almost seeming designed to create the most unpleasant experience possible. As soon as I began moving around the building and bringing our bags in, I couldn’t help but notice a large number of seriously sketchy individuals who appeared to be living in the hotel. While I don’t have anything against unhoused persons, If I wanted to spend my vacation in Williamsburg staying in a homeless shelter I would have made a reservation in one. Not in a hotel which was touted as clean, well maintained and comfortable. Which it most assuredly is not. I spoke to a few “residents” of the Mainstay Boarding House and they verified that for the sum of $490 per week they are allowed to reside in the hotel. We were told by a food delivery person that many of the residents of the Travelodge had moved over here after it was closed for refurbishment. With the Williamsburg Suites, just a few blocks away, getting shut down after being deemed uninhabitable by the City of Williamsburg it is more than likely the persons displaced from there have moved into this ramshackle fleabag joint. I’m certainly grateful I was not traveling with a child on this trip. While observing the clientele, I had an uneasy feeling that many of the individuals being housed here on a long term basis might have a difficult time finding a place to stay as they may not be allowed to be near a playground or an elementary school or other places children are likely to gather. For this reason, I would not recommend this location as being Family Friendly. If you are considering staying in this hotel please do yourself a favor and read the dozens of other reviews which reinforce everything I have said.

Years ago I had stayed at the Mainstay in Williamsburg, Va. and it was ok......BUT NOT THIS LAST TIME. The hotel is filthy and run down. The room I was given had a kitchen with rusty pots and pans. The refrigerated had mold and rust. The rugs and chairs were filthy and stained to the point that I wouldn't walk on the rugs barefoot or sit on the chairs. The toilet was not bolted down and tipped when using it. The airconditioner did not work and by noon the room temperature reached 84°. The hotel was advertised as family friendly which I disagree with. This hotel houses homeless people long term (mostly men). I don't have anything against the homeless but sometimes they may have an unsavory past. One of the housed residents confirmed most of the "guests" are homeless men and the hotel is charging $490.00 per week to house them. A Door Dash delivery person also confirmed the hotel is housing mostly homeless men. The ad says this hotel provides free breakfast which is longer the case. It makes sense that they don't because it would be a soup kitchen as well. They probably don't do it because people staying for a vacation would see the clientele this hotel caters to. The "recommendation" on the Trivago website says they have a pool.....they do BUTit is not filled and not available to guests. When I complained to the hotel manager he said he was insulted by my complaints. He told me his hotel is always 90% booked and I'm surmising it's because they are being paid to to take in people that other "family friendly" hotels would not. I would think twice about bringing my family here.

Do not stay here. This place is filthy, run down, and full of roaches. We spent about 30 minutes before the roaches took over the room and we had to leave. This place is a dump - don't even look into the old pool area.

Imagine the worst hotel/motel and multiple by 10. The room was filthy, smelled, and was in general disrepair. We would have left if not for traveling as a group. I tried to contact the manager, but he was unavailable and never called as requested. The microwave, coffee pot, plates, glassware, and kitchenette sink had not been cleaned. The bathroom was nasty and had God knows what on the wall. Found several active bugs, and suspect mold. If the only rooms available in the area were here, I would drive to Richmond first.

Run away from this place. DO NOT STAY HERE! This hotel had many dead bugs on the floor of our room. We saw a live roach crawling under the refrigerator as we turned on the lights to enter our room. The bathroom had black mildew on the tiles. The toilet seat was stained and cracked. The carpets were filthy and the there were crumbs and food items left from the previous guests. The TV did not work when we first got there, but someone came to fix it right away. They advertised breakfast, but the next morning we were told they did away with that months ago, even though it was still posted on their website. When we booked this place, we were told it had a 4 star rating...clearly not and we should have read the reviews.

Stay Very Far AWAY!!! My first thoughts after checking in was the "Shining". The stench was awful and the hallway was disgusting. Sketchy people hanging out in the hallway drinking and talking loudly on their phones. The room, well the smell followed. No breakfast, no pool, and a half decent room. The bathroom was moldy and smelled. I don't know how Mainstay can let people stay here?!?!? Needless to say, I slept with one eye open as when we checked in the window was unlocked. Yes I should have turned around and left.
