We were in Abilene on business and spent two nights at Whitten Inn. We were surprised at the affordability of this beautiful Hotel across the street from a WalMart and many eating places. The location is perfect to get all over the city, especially to the two northside universities: ACU and HSU. We were met at the front desk by two friendly, helpful employees who answered all our questions. It was a nice experience all around and we will definitely return to that Inn every time we are in the Abilene area. Johnnie Lou Boyd, Midland, Texas

This is a very average place: you get what you pay for. The location is convenient, has external room entrances, and it was immaculately clean. Everyone at the desk was nice. But the rooms are very small and could use some TLC. There aren't enough plugs to charge things, and the towels are tiny and like sand paper. Okay for a quick overnight.

I stayed here because this place has such high ratings on here and another site I use. The first issue I had was the staff at check in. While I wouldn't call them rude, I wouldn't say friendly, either. Now, I will shoulder some blame for not requesting a 1st floor room when I booked... I asked for one at check-in. The clerk says, "Sorry, all sold out. No breakfast, coffee here from XX to XX (insert hours). Wifi password on the back, capital W." Then slides the little envelope with the card keys at me and turns and walks away. OK... no prob. I go to the room. 2nd floor, about as far from the stairs as you can get. Nice for a 100% disabled vet with cardiac problems... So, I get to the room, I'm tired from driving, and unloading. I get the air conditioner going, close the curtains, and pass out. In the AM I get up and begin to notice things. The shower caulking is moldy. There is dirt pushed up in the corners of the tile/tub. The door to the bathroom is off level and swings halfway shut. The tray that the ice bucket and cups are on is covered with short brown hairs - not mine. Annoying. I can deal with it all, though. I do my business that day the next morning, as I'm getting my stuff loaded, I drop my sunglasses and they are slightly under the second bed.. I look under - There's an old water bottle cap. A dirty used band aid. And other, unidentified objects. Obviously, their housekeeping staff NEVER moves the beds to clean. The dirt and dust was thick underneath. So, things look great on the surface, but... When you look closer, its filthy. No, this was my first, and last stay at this one. They had no amenities that made it worth the cost

Always clean and friendly. Whitten Inn provides a quality product and friendly staff for a lower end motel. Right on I20 yet rooms are quiet and comfortable. It’s the closest place to stay to Abilene Christian University and is right across the street from Cracker Barrel. My one complaint is that there is only 1 available plug in the room - and it’s in the bathroom. The simple fix would be new lamps with a built in plug and charger outlet. Time to update those dark and old lamps folks.
