The Burns night at the Eight Acres was excellent. We had a warm reception and were delighted at the décor with pretty lights and beautifully dressed chairs with gold sashes. The Elgin Strathspey and Reel band were playing and we immediately felt relaxed and ready for a great evening. The smoked salmon starter was delicious and the beetroot sorbet with the pigeon was to die for! The haggis was duly 'fiddled' in and everyone else in my party enjoyed their haggis, neeps and tatties and I enjoyed the haddock mornay (not being a haggis fan - sorry!). The sweets were absolutely delicious. My Cranachan was very light and fluffy and in a brandy snap basket with a gorgeous raspberry coulis. The meal was just divine. The service was excellent, the food all hot and beautifully prepared and presented. The evening was well organised and continued in the same happy vein with a variety of music, singing and an excellent solo instrumentalist. We danced every dance of the ceilidh and had a truly wonderful evening. The whole evening was amazing value at only £25 with the standard of everything well above what you might expect. There was nothing that could have been improved - that's saying something for me - I usually find something! Well done and thank you to the organisers and staff for creating a wonderfully memorable evening for us.

Worse hotel ever, non of the facilities were open or in use, no swimming pool no gym no spa, no restaurant. Terrible breakfast, they say no need to book just come down and help yourself. because of this the breakfast had been out in tubs in water bath to keep warm. nearly all of it was cold, dried out, tatie scone were deep fried, scrambled eggs were cold and hard and discoloured due to being left out so long, ordered fried egss and they couldnt even cook them, white snotty eggs undercooked. no hot water for tea, it was tepid water out of a jug. no service, scruffy "waiter/handyman" supposed to be a 3* hotel. liited staff, took 3 days for someone to answer the phone, i even phoned up while stood at reception and it rings out but no one answers, i asked why no one answers and was told they were the only person on and doing other things, i left 3 messages for a call back, and they didnt, polite receptionist but you get a bit annoyed with hearing "your welcome" all the time. saying that and being polite doesnt change the fact that this place is absolutely dire, it looks like crossroad motel, good beds is the only thing i can say, paper thin walls, person next to my room was watching something on his phone at about 2 in the morning, could hear everthing. so lack of sleep. no draught beer, limited choices on bar drinks, no atmosphere, place is absolutely dead, i dont even know how it is still even open. shocking

Awful. Room was tiny and dirty. Stayed all over Scotland and this was the worst hotel by far. Would recommend going to a local run b&b instead. Nice area though and good location. Elgin is beautiful and well worth visiting. Will not be returning.

We're rather disappointed on arrival as the pool was closed as was the restaurant. But were able to walk into town and get meal. Breakfast was excellent and the room comfortable. Most importantly the staff were superb and very helpful. We had a fire alarm on the first night and they responded superbly. Calm and organised and so reassuring. Liaised with fire brigade and the police so that all was calm. The fire was a bin set alight with a cigarette stub. The hotel is about to close for renovations and should be good when done. Well sited and a good centre for the whole area with easy parking a good grounds.
