A great option for staying around Canton & Potsdam
We had a lovely stay at this pet friendly hotel in potsdam. Nice large rooms, very clean, very friendly staff and a great location on the river. However, it should be noted that there is no elevator in the building. If you are put in a 2nd floor room, you will need to take the stairs. This will be a problem for people with mobility issues.

When I booked this, it was a quaint local inn. While we knew there were updates being done to the main floor, we didn’t know it had been completed changed to a Best Western. I sent an email before our trip asking for information, it was never acknowledged. It is sterile and cold. No one at the desk even spoke to us when we went down to get coffee to go. Not even a Good Morning.
Not good for anyone needing an elevator. When traveling, luggage can be awkward to get up stairs. There is only a stairway with awkward railings. The bathroom has no safety features at all. Nothing at all to hang on to when getting into and out of the tub. We don’t need ADA but there is nothing.
The shower curtain has an easily removable bottom so it can be cleaned but it was caked with mildew.
All I can say is that the beds were clean and comfy.
Extremely disappointed by their “upgrades”.

It’s right downtown close to everything including the university.
Only things were - our fridge still had food in it from the previous guest and they never came in and gave us new towels on second day. They also never indicated they were not going to do that.

The breakfast was good. The bed comfort was horrible. The bed was very uncomfortable. It was very hard and very hard to sleep on.

Our room was large and comfortable. The parking lot was also spacious and offered easy access to the facility. The staff was friendly and helpful. Downtown Potsdam, where the hotel is located, is largely deserted, with empty storefronts in most of the historic buildings. However, there is a beautiful riverfront park right next to the hotel that offers pleasant views of the water and surrounding scenery. Also, even though the Potsdam area does not offer boutiques or other high-end shopping or dining options, one can find department stores, discount outlets, grocery stores, diners and practical dining options just a few minutes away by car.

I do love that the place inside of the hotel and outside is very clean. I love how everything you need is in walking distance. Also, the best is the view of the river! You can see it out of your bedroom window or you can sit outside and enjoy the place. Historical too! Come and see for yourself !

The updates to the hotel are great. the rooms are above average size which is awesome. I personally love that there are multiple hooks and shelves to hang items. There was a beside table for the second queen bed. It's like the hotel had heard my complaints from over the years and did it all right here. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. My only slight negative is one of the bed sheets were stained and it just kinda grossed me out. but everythign else was amazing.
