Worst Night Ever at a Hotel
Over the years, I’ve stayed at countless hotels, but the Red Roof Inn at Mt. Holly stands out as the worst by far. My daughter and I were on a long road trip from New York to Florida and arrived late in the evening—too exhausted to find another place. Otherwise, we absolutely would have.
The problems began at check-in, where I was handed three pages of fine-print terms and conditions to sign—something I’ve never encountered before. The room itself was in poor condition: moldy, non-functional ceiling lights, barely any usable outlets, and a bathroom with visible water damage poorly concealed by a sloppy paint job.
Basic amenities were lacking. There was no shampoo or conditioner (thankfully, we brought our own), and the soap dispenser mounted to the wall didn’t work at all. But the most unforgettable part? The overwhelming stench—like a hundred wet dogs had just vacated the room.
