We stayed at Country Inn and Suites in Waterloo, Iowa on Hammond Ave on June 7, 2025. We were staying for a soccer tournament and so we paid a decent amount of money ($191 total for one night). When we arrived, our room was missing a shower curtain and 2 pillows (the pillowcases were on the desk). Our teammates room was missing window curtains, which the front desk "fixed" by hanging white sheets over the window. The kids were enjoying the pool. The door to the outside was propped open so anyone could come and go. Several young people were going outside to vape. I was charged a $100 fee for smoking. I do not smoke so I called the hotel the next week. They said they would issue me a refund but it would take 5-7 business days. July 29th I realize the fee has never been refunded so I call the hotel back. Now they tell me they aren't able to offer refunds for that. Jessica tells me I have to have it disputed with my bank. Casey the manager is too busy to talk to me. This hotel is nowhere near worth the nearly $200 I paid for one night, but I'm really not okay paying an extra $100 for something I didn't do. It is ridiculous to have to go through a bank dispute to have it refunded.

Traveling with our RV and needed to find lodging due to the cold weather; but with the trailer; my husband is not too excited hauling it through town. The Country Inn was just on the outskirts & right next to a large Perkins parking lot so made parking a breeze. The staff were very friendly; breakfast was similar to others; they need to do some updates: the furniture is soiled and our mattress in Rm 318 was firm but you could actually feel some of inner springs, and we couldn’t adjust the temperature on the fan.

Wouldn’t return. Fairly certain there was one person working when we checked in for the Thanksgiving holiday. I would say the room was “refreshed” vs cleaned. Appeared that someone had lived full time on the pull out sofa and the mattress cover was left for everyone to enjoy. Requested a roll-away, which was brought with no bedding, requiring an extra trip. The base of the toilet… yuck. Hair on the wall in the shower. My shoes literally stuck to the floor next to the bed. Could observably see there has been a considerable spill and not mopped up.

We have stayed at a number of Country Inns & Suites over the years and found them to be exceptional. Not this one. It was overpriced for what it was - maybe there was something going on in the community? No one was at the front desk when we got there. There was a note asking people checking in to use a lobby phone to call someone, but no one answered. So we waited to for someone to show up. The construction & materials used this facility were not up par with other Country Inns. Breakfast was sub-par, the juice dispenser was broken so unless you wanted coffee or milk you were out of luck. Tried to find kitchen staff to get some water, but no one was around. Went to the front desk and someone finally showed up. There are quite a few other options in Waterloo, so we'll probably go somewhere else next time we go thru.

I took the kids to the waterpark for the day and stayed here for the night. We had the BEST experience at this hotel.. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and very clean. There was a hot breakfast in the morning and that was great as well. The manager was awesome and very kind. We will stay at this hotel when ever we are in town.

5 stars for sure. We had the handicapped room. Just huge. (See picture.) Staff: Breakfast cooks, lovely; front desk, helpful & fun; housekeeping, so sweet & efficient,… Pool area: super clean. Plenty of pool towels. Jacuzzi temp, spot on. The best place to stay if you’re doing the “Lost Island 2-park Day Pass” because we had a nice break here between parks. It was also close to the Arboretum, so we toured that. I will be back someday & I will stay here again.

I'm very torn on how to write this review. There's definitely 2 different stories to tell.... SERVICE: If 6 stars existed they would earn it in this category! From the hotel manager who assisted us prior to our arrival to the front desk to even the breakfast crew......AMAZING! We had numerous issues prior to our arrival such as the 800 # tried to tell us things like no we don't price match even though the website clearly says they do. Mindy the Manager took care of everything pre trip and during our trip. This included their gym which was currently out of service and she made arrangements for us to use the fitness facility at their Cedar Falls property. Did I mention it was her day off when she made that happen?! Above and beyond from everyone during our stay! UPKEEP: That's where the hotel needs improvement. We've stayed at Country Inns for years, but it's been quite a few years now. The ratings at this property were just ok at best, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt based on past experience with this chain in general. This was our 1st stay at this location, though. The exterior is full of weeds in the grass, landscaping that needs trimmed and an over abundance of dog poo, a parking lot that felt like we were 4 wheeling in our jeep to get to their property, empty flower pots full of trash, etc. Our room was clean. No issues there for the most part, but there was a good size gap at the top of the door frame, large crack in the ceiling that had been patched before but needed done again and just a general worn feel to it. There is no shelf or counter space in the bathroom. Not even a closed lid you can put down on the toilet and use that for your makeup bag. The sink is an over mount sink and it takes up nearly the entire counter. They need shelves or something added for vanity space, make up bags, etc...... BREAKFAST: Good hot breakfast with plenty of choices. Perhaps more choices than I typically find at hotels with make your own waffles, biscuits and gravy, eggs, potatoes, sausage, ham and many many pastries, breads, yogurts, fruits, etc to choose from. Wknd bkst doesn’t start until 7 am. People were lined up waiting. They may want to consider starting sooner. We needed to leave by 6:45 for an event and couldn’t get anything. I suspect others who are in town for events have the same “problem”. They did have coffee and a fruit bowl sitting out. GYM: Currently out of service. FYI if that's important to you. If you are a runner/walker/cyclist you may want to consider the Cedar Falls property instead. They are located right off the Cedar Valley trail system. The CF Country Inn is perhaps 1 blk off the trail and you can go for miles! Great trail system! COOKIES: Country Inn is known for their Otis Spunkmeyer cookies and the reason my husband likes this chain. Sad, but true! :) Thus why we need a hotel with a gym! I think they had cookies stocked at the front counter for him 24/7! Typically ho
