Booked a private room for my wife and I. I feel there description for the room should not be “Private”. Firstly. I met my wife in a backpackers and have travelled the world staying in backpackers. This is the worst I’ve been to. Why? Not due to cleanliness. That was good. Not due to location. That was fine. I believe it was the service and the description of the room was misleading. The manager. Lulu Told us shoes of at the entrance of the building when staying. Ok. Also, no food or drink in the private room. This I thought was asking a lot. The room was accessed upstairs, through the dorm between 2 toilets. So not very private. The air conditioning didn’t work and the balcony door didn’t close. We asked for help for a rental car and we’re told we probably wouldn’t get one??? Left to our own devices we found one. We decided not to stay as it wasn’t as advertised in our opinion and we’re not offered a refund. So we paid for a room we didn’t use for a week. We found another place. All in all. Probably a reasonable backpackers for the single dorm room person. But the “private room” was the worst I’ve seen. Not a good vibe at all. The owners or manager should travel and see what others offer.

Funky from Outside.. Great place to stay. Excellent staff.. Lotus was super helpful.. super clean, cozy, all necessary needs available. friendly travelers, a/c rooms, great coffee, helpful folks.. hope to come back on my next visit to Hilo..

This is the hostel with the best bed and pillow I have ever checked in to. The staff was really nice and the common areas were full of places and corners for you to check out. The guest policy and rules were solid and ensured everyone's comfort. The shared bathroom was always kept nice and tidy. The noise level was surprisingly moderate although the staff always played loud music in the reception area, so it was so really audible inside the room. Good stays for people on tight budget, but still doesn't want to compromise on the cleanliness and comfort of the accommodation.

Cute quaint space. They just finishing renovating when I stayed in Feb, so it wasn't fully booked. It's located pretty centrally, so it was easy for me to walk to a few places. Staff was so friendly, gave recommendations and even had a white board with local events happening some nights. The lotus (female) dorm doesn't not have outlets near all the beds. It wasn't a huge deal for me, but something to be aware of. Everything else was great, and so clean!
