We just stayed at Camellia Hills, 4 days after the Sri Lankan floods, the hotel let us know when the roads were open and we were off on the long drive but I am sooo thankful we made the effort. Camellia Hills is a very special place, a home from home. The staff looked after us extremely well, fantastic all inclusive drinks and the chefs food is amazing! We travelled with our 5 month old daughter and the hotel were so accommodating. We loved walking around the tea plantation, relaxing by the pool and enjoying afternoon tea on the terrace. We will be going back!

The property is beautifully furnished, with only 5 rooms it often feels like you have the place to yourself. Our room looked out onto the lake which was breathtaking to wake up to. The room is a good size, with a sofa and AC although we spent a lot of time in the shared living room with the balcony over looking the beautiful lake. The pool also overlooks the lake surrounded by nature. It was refreshing after a morning of activities. Sadly the local tea factory was closed when we visited but we explored the plantation instead. (Just keep an eye out for leeches which they prepared us for with socks and spray!) We had sunny mornings, rainy afternoons and mild evenings. All the staff were accommodating and friendly and no request too small. Every meals and snack we had was delicious and high quality we had a complimentary private cooking class with the chef for dinner one night. Cannot recommend this place enough. It is very off the beaten path, but worth it nestled in the middle of the tea plantations. Wish we had stayed longer.

We went to Camellia Hills on a weekday by our own vehicle. After the booking, the property team called and gave us the basic information. There are few ways to go, but we used the Kalugala – Lakshapana – Upper Aberdeen road, which was very scenic and quiet. You can also go from Hatton side, but better not to fully trust Google Maps near the end because it shows some strange routes. Just call the staff and they will guide you properly. The place has only five rooms, so it feels more private. We got the ground floor room close to the pool, and honestly that view of Castlereagh reservoir and the mountains is the best part. The room was spacious, clean and had AC. Staff were friendly and always ready to help. Food is à la carte, and whatever we ordered tasted very good. The infinity pool is deep and not heated, but still nice to use especially with the view. They have some activities like small hikes, bird watching, boat rides and tea experiences. The naturalist, Chamara, was very knowledgeable and a very humble person. Only thing is if it rains the area can get a bit muddy, but they give boots and sprays so it’s manageable. Overall a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Unbelievable luxury and service. You are made to feel so at home and soon fall into behaving like it’s your own home. We were lucky enough to be the only guests and we felt like a king and queen. Upul and his team almost predicted our every wish. It will now be hard to go to any other hotel and not feel a bit underwhelmed after staying here. Will definitely return and for longer Wonderful place. Absolutely recommend
