We arrived in Chefchaouen around 9 p.m., exhausted from the long day and the difficult road, we had reserved a room here online, but the owner advised us to cancel the reservation and make it directly with her over the phone in order to get a better price. We were looking for someone to check us in when we arrived, but the reception desk and hall were both empty until a teenage boy who was high from whatever drug he was smoking came from outside and introduced himself as the receptionist. We told him we had made a reservation over the phone with a woman who introduced herself as the owner, and he asked us to follow him to the first floor, where we were surprised to learn that the room she gave us was different and smaller than what we had booked online, and even more surprised to learn that the price was even higher than what we had previously agreed on. We called her to get an explanation, but she refused to listen and told us to either take it or leave it, we later learned that the owner is staying on the hotel's top floor and didn't even bother coming down to explain what she did. After some time on the phone, she informed us that there was a "suite" on the ground floor that we could book for the same price as before, minus breakfast. We agreed to take that one because we were tired and didn't have the energy to look elsewhere because it was late and we just wanted to rest. After checking in, we went to our room, which was freezing with no AC and only a small heater meant to heat small areas such as the bathroom. We turned it on, but it didn't work. The room we were given overlooked the backyard of a house surrounded by Chefchaouen's small river. We had just finished dinner and were ready to sleep. My friend was sleeping, and as I set my alarm for the next day, I noticed a shadow of a person entering from the balcony; I couldn't believe what I saw, despite the room's light is still turned on. I couldn't move because I was so shocked and dismayed by what was going on that I couldn't move when I saw the person searching our bags and grabbing money from the table. I yelled at him, and he jumped into the balcony as my friend awoke. We followed him, looking down on him hanging from the fence of the house next door, yelling at him but he had cold blood as he slowly went down the fence and crossed the river to the other side. We called the lady in our state of shock and fear, and her first response was that she didn't believe us!!! We insisted on her coming down, but she insisted on calling the cops first. After about 30 minutes, two police officers arrived with her, we explained what had happened, and they asked us to accompany them to the police station to file a report. The lady claims the hotel has security cameras, but when the cops ask to see the footage, she claims they aren't working!!! We returned to the hotel after three hours at the police station, refusing to stay there, but because we were too tired and had a long road ahead of us to
